What a shame (https://youtu.be/09vVF-Hvykg?t=9s). I had rooted for Gottfried. And yet, I have a hard time getting worked up about these sorts of things. There's rule-breaking and rule-breaking. I hate the delusional pretense that because players receive payments-in-kind they aren't paid. The standard should be dispensed with so that there could be some actual transparency in the college game. Unfortunately, institutional bureaucracy and broader sentimental delusion will probably deny that until the system collapses upon itself.

I always wondered why a lot of other college coaches did not speak out vehemently about unc's cheating. They perhaps did not want to point fingers because of what they were doing.

N.C. State >> Caught Cheating >> No Surprise

It was a bigger surprise when Captain Renault discovered there was gambling going on in Rick's Cafe.

Say what you will about UNC - at least they got banners for their cheating.

It's not like the Pack did particularly well when Gottfried was paying players. Maybe the school can argue it gained no advantage? :-)

Are the cheerleaders considered athletes or non-athletes?😏

Specifically with respect to Dennis Smith Jr, too. I remember following that recruitment, and pretty much all the "insiders" talked about NCSU paying DSJ. NCSU is really bad at cheating.

Leaving aside NCAA rules, my understanding is that a 6 figure payment to a recruit could be prosecuted as tax evasion, that the prosecution could be directed at both the recruit and the coaches, and that the fine and prison time can both be significant.

So if Louisville had dangled and paid cheerleaders to recruits instead of, well, you know....

Oh, never mind!
