The final qualifiers on the Men's side will be happening soon.

The United States has already qualified and will be picking from this group for the last two games:

Some people wonder why players would want to participate at this point, but most of the names on the list will not sniff the NBA so this is a great opportunity for them to audition for clubs around the world who might be paying more attention to these games than your average G League game.

As expected, Miela Goodchild is one of the players who will try out for Australia's U19 team this summer:

She was one of the stars for the U18 team that qualified for this tournament, but she will be joined by some players who were absent due to other commitments.

That tournament schedule has not been finalized, but the U19 World Championship on the men's side did have their group draw with these results:

There is still time for a contender to emerge and for withdrawals to affect the United States, but they should be the overwhelming favorite to avenge their defeat two years ago.

Thursday marks the start of another set of Men's National Team games around the world. Unfortunately the World Cup qualifiers are behind the ESPN+ paywall with qualifying for other tournament on FIBA's YouTube channel.

A long day of qualifiers started in Asia Group F with the West Asia teams hosting. Australia tried some younger players out as they went to Kazakhstan and won 81-60. Brief college player Isaac Humphries had 17 points and 7 rebounds, Mitch Creek had 12 points as he just came off his first NBA contract, and recent college graduate Jock Landale had 10 points while newly naturalized Anthony Clemmons had 31 points in the loss. Iran is in crisis, allowing Japan to climb above them with a 97-89 win as the hosts also forgot how to handle the math at the end of the game, causing them to drop in the tiebreaker even though they are still likely to qualify. In the win, naturalized player Nick Fazekas had 26 points and 8 rebounds. The Philippines took care of business in Qatar 84-46 as naturalized player Andray Blatche returned to game shape after suspension and had 17 points, 15 rebounds, and 7 assists, former collegian Marcio Lassiter had 14 points, and brief collegian Japeth Aguilar had 10 points.

In Europe Group K, Russia took care of what they could control with a 104-60 win in Bulgaria while naturalized player Jason Washburn had 19 points for the hosts. Finland avoided elimination as Jamar Wilson, who is naturalized by marriage, had 29 points and 6 rebounds to help them past France 76-69 as Alex Murphy was not in contention due to injury. Former draft pick Mathias Lessort had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the visitors. Finland must travel to Russia and win by enough to flip the tiebreaker in order to qualify. The Czech Republic beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 69-64 in a game with no impact for either team.

In Group L, Serbia would have only needed a win to take the last spot, but were humiliated on the road by eliminated Estonia 71-70 despite having their talisman Milos Teodosic back after his recent NBA exit with 16 points and 10 assists. Israel kept themselves alive with an 81-77 win over Germany as T.J. Cline had 14 points as the player brought in with American ties. In the loss, former collegian Niels Giffey had 16 points and ex-NBA player Paul Zipser had 15 points. Greece beat Georgia 81-69 despite 18 points from naturalized player Thad McFadden. The key game to watch in the last set of games will be Serbia hosting Israel.

In the Americas Group F, the northern teams hosted this round. Canada's players were looking to impress for final roster spots in their 85-46 win over Chile as Brady Heslip had 14 points, Kyle Wiltjer had 12 points and 14 rebounds, and Melvin Ejim had 12 points and 9 rebounds among their former collegians. Brazil officially qualified with a 104-80 win over the US Virgin Islands while still relying on old NBA players as Marcus Vinicius had 22 points and 9 rebounds, Leandro Barbosa had 19 points, and Alex Ribeiro Garcia had 11 points. The hosts had a team of players with experience on the mainland as Georgio Milligan had 25 points and 11 rebounds, Devon Peltier had 15 points, and Jamaal Samuel had 12 points. The Dominican Republic started well and then managed to hang on to a 72-67 win over Venezuela as they now hope to beat out the fourth place team in the other group for the last spot from the Americas. Former collegians featured on both sides as Eloy Vargas had 13 points and Sadiel Rojas had 10 points in the win while Nestor Colmenares had 10 points in the loss.

Eric Boateng was not called up by Great Britain for their pre-qualifiers for Eurobasket, putting his national team career in some doubt with talented youngsters emerging, but they did beat Cyprus 84-47 in Group D. Former collegians factored in the result as Ovie Soko had 11 points and 7 rebounds and Andrew Lawrence had 11 points while naturalized player Tyrell Biggs had 11 points in the loss. In Group A, Sweden beat Denmark 79-74, preventing the visitors from clinching the group's spot in the next round as American-born Erik Rush had 10 points and 7 rebounds while former collegian Kevin Larsen had 13 points in the loss. Romania won 65-53 against what I guess I will now call North Macedonia in Group B to also prevent their opponents from advancing automatically. Iceland's 91-67 win over Portugal in Group C means that Belgium gets the automatic spot from the group. Jon Stefansson, infamous for his high school career, had 17 points to lead the way while former collegians also played a part as Haukur Palsson had 15 points and 7 rebounds, Martin Hermansson had 13 points and 8 assists, and Kris Acox had 11 points. Miguel Queiroz, who prepped in the United States, had 13 points in the loss.

The United States was solid, but not particularly spectacular as they play out the string in qualifying, beating Panama 111-80. The visitors also had former collegians as Javier Carter had 18 points and 7 rebounds and Geno Luzcando had 11 points.

Elsewhere in Group E, Puerto just managed to hold on to their edge by surviving Argentina 87-86. Their players also have extensive experience on the mainland as Gian Clavell had 21 points, John Holland had 14 points, Ramon Clemente had 11 points, and Jorge Bryan Diaz had 10 points and 7 rebounds. The visitors only had one former NBA player as Nico Brussino had 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists. Uruguay could not keep pace, falling to last place Mexico 88-77, which did not have a single one of the players that it would field if this was the main tournament. Former collegians led the way as the infamous Luke Martinez had 23 points and Jorge Camacho had 13 points. On the final day, Puerto Rico will qualify with a win, eliminating Uruguay in the process. The Dominican Republic will host Brazil in the other group with a simultaneous tipoff and would not need a win if Puerto Rico wins. They will advance with a win, but a Uruguay beating Puerto Rico and Brazil winning would require tiebreakers to determine the last two teams to qualify.

The day of qualifiers started in Asia Group E as Syria had to play home games in Lebanon again, losing to South Korea 87-74, which got 25 points and 12 rebounds from naturalized player Ricardo Ratliffe. China still has an effect on the standings even though they are qualified as hosts and they lost to Jordan 86-62 despite getting Zhou Qi back from the NBA as he had 19 points and 10 rebounds while naturalized player Dar Tucker had 32 points and 11 rebounds for the hosts. Group leaders New Zealand were not as generous to Lebanon as they got 19 points from Tom Abercrombie and 15 points and 8 rebounds from Finn Delany among their contingent of former collegians and won 69-67. The hosts got 10 points and 9 rebounds from naturalized player Ater Majok and had their own former collegians as Ali Haidar had 16 points and 11 rebounds and Ahmad Ibrahim had 10 points.

In a game that really mattered, Ukraine started off extremely well at home, but Montenegro dominated the second half to win 76-74 with 26 points from naturalized player Derek Needham and 11 points from former draft pick Bojan Dubljevic. Latvia missed a chance after losing to Spain 67-62, but they already knew that they need a win at Montengro on the final day.

Africa Group F is taking place in Ivory Coast as the other group is already done with two teams still looking to capture the last spot by being the best third place team. Central African Republic stayed in the conversation with a 75-57 win over Mali with 18 points from former collegian Destin Damachoua. Senegal grabbed the group's other automatic spot with an 81-41 win over Rwanda and were led by former collegians as Youssoupha Ndoye had 18 points and 9 rebounds and Mouhammad Faye had 12 points and 8 rebounds. The hosts knew that a loss would eliminate them and they were impressive in a 72-46 win over previously undefeated Nigeria, which still brought a decent team as Ike Diogu had 10 points as their veteran star. Former collegians were also involved in the win as Guy Landri Edi had 15 points and Tiegbe Bamba had 10 points and 6 rebounds.

Former collegians featured in the loss as Michael Carey had 14 points, David Nesbitt had 13 points and 8 rebounds, Tum Tum Nairn had 13 points, and Shaq Cleare had 12 points and 9 rebounds. The hosts beat Antigua and Barbuda 96-71 with their own group of former collegians as Richard Troyer had 20 points, Tyrone Hall had 15 points and 6 rebounds, and Jihad Wright had 13 points. The visitors also have a number of former collegians as Duane James had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Joel McIntosh had 13 points.

Tunja, Colombia is where the four southern teams are playing Group B. Paraguay beat Guyana 93-53 behind 15 points from former collegian Bruno Zanotti while another former collegian Anthony Moe had 13 points and 11 rebounds in the loss. The hosts beat Bolivia 84-51 as they got Braian Angola from the G League and he had 18 points and their old stalwart from the previous generation of players who went to the United States for college, Stalin Ortiz, had 11 points.

The only qualifying for Worlds was in Africa Group F since the games were all in the same location. Senegal beat Mali 62-38 as seeding was the only thing left for them to play for at this point. Nigeria then eliminated the Central African Republic 72-59 despite 16 points from naturalized player Johndre Jefferson. As usual, the group leaders are relying on a number of players with American roots as Ike Diogu had 22 points and 9 rebounds, Ike Iroegbu had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Michael Umeh had 11 points. Hosts Ivory Coast should feel good about their chances of overtaking Cameroon's point differential to grab the last spot as an 87-60 win over Rwanda leaves them only needing a win over Mali by a handful of points. Former collegians featured in the win as Baru Adjehi had 14 points and 7 rebounds and Mohamed Kone had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

That result coupled with hosts Colombia beating Guyana 114-68 meant that the two victors will play in the next round. The former collegians from two different generations led the way as Braian Angola had 26 points and 8 assists and Stalin Ortiz had 13 points and 10 rebounds. There are also plenty of American ties for the visitors as former collegian Anthony Moe had 17 points and 12 rebounds and junior college player Stanton Rose and New York high schooler Kevon Wiggins had 16 points each.

Former collegians led the visitors as Corey Webster had 18 points and 7 assists, Tom Abercrombie had 10 points and 8 rebounds, and Finn Delany had 10 points and 6 rebounds. That result ended up pushing them through in third place after Lebanon lost to South Korea, which got 25 points and 11 rebounds from naturalized player Ricardo Ratliffe, 84-72.

The result eliminated Georgia as well so faded late at home despite 21 points from former collegian Duda Sanadze and 20 points from naturalized player Thad McFadden in an 84-77 loss to Estonia. Greece made sure that they took the top spot in the group, beating Germany 69-63.

Pre-qualifying finished with all four spots in the next round settled now and twelve teams left lined up for the last chance at qualifying. In Group A, Belarus beat Sweden 73-60 to create a tie among all teams in the group, but the visitors still won the tiebreaker to take the automatic place. The hosts got 15 points from former collegian Artsiom Parakhouski and 13 points and 6 assists from naturalized player Devon Saddler. Belgium had already progressed from Group C and a 90-62 defeat did not change Iceland's group placement for the next round as the visitors had a number of former collegians, included Elvar Fridriksson and Martin Hermannsson who had 12 points each. Great Britain won 78-75 in Group D, but that was not enough to shift the tiebreaker as Austria advanced thanks to 26 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists from naturalized player Sylven Landesberg. Central African Republic beat Rwanda, which got 33 points and 7 rebounds from former collegian Kenny Gasana, 77-69 with both teams already eliminated. The victors got 11 points and 6 rebounds from their naturalized player Johndre Jefferson and contributions from other former collegians as Destin Damachoua had 18 points and 6 assists and Romain Sato had 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 8 assists. The top two teams in each group advance and will play two games in the next round against opponents from the corresponding partner group (A and B, C and D, E and F, and G and H).

Turkey was automatically in the group due to the desire to keep teams from the Americas, Africa, and Asia from being drawn with other teams from their federations. Greece figures to be one of the next round opponents for the United States, but the other three will be fighting it out for that last spot.

The hosts got a very generous draw and could lock up the automatic Asian Olympic spot quickly. Group H is a group of death that will merge with a potentially tough Group G. Australia might find themselves on the wrong end of the Oceania automatic spot if Canada really brings it and Lithuania is their consistent selves as New Zealand figures to have a solid shot at advancing. The Africa spot is up for grabs as none of the teams should feel like they are in a great position to advance, but if Nigeria brings a strong team, they probably have the best shot of avoiding the classification rounds.

The United States is preparing to reclaim the U19 World Championships this year after losing in both finals two years ago. Other countries already have to prepare for the ones in two years. Guatemala hosted both of the U16 COCABA championships (technically U17 since they are usually played the year before as U16 tournaments) this weekend, qualifying at least the top two teams for Centrobasket tournaments later this year that will qualify teams for the 2020 U18 Americas tournaments that will provide teams to the 2021 U19 World Championships. Both tournaments were conducted as round-robin events due to the convenient number of teams participating.

The USA Basketball plans for the Men's team this summer are supposed to revealed next week so details are starting to leak out now. There are supposed to be 18 players on the main training camp list and almost that many names have been speculated, including Jayson Tatum. They are intending to carry 10 players on the USA Select team for practice and Marvin Bagley is supposed to be on there while they plan on asking Zion Williamson to try to impress in that format to move up to the main list.

The USA U16 Girl's game ended up not being played because Mexico was unable to reach Chile in time. When trouble was first on the horizon, the game was pushed back in the day, but that did not work out. The game will be played on Wednesday during the scheduled off day. Fortunately, the United States figures to cruise through the first four games or so leaving plenty of energy even with no rest before the last two days of games.

Defending champions Canada beat Australia 81-76 as A.J. Lawson of South Carolina had 23 points and 8 rebounds and Seton Hall-bound Tyrese Samuel had 10 points and 7 rebounds. For Australia, Kody Stattmann of Virginia had 21 points and Samson Froling of Creighton had 15 points, 13 rebounds, and 6 assists.

The other semifinal saw some history made as Mali guaranteed themselves a medal with a 76-73 win over France. Gonzaga signee Oumar Ballo had 17 points and 11 rebounds, Abdoul Coulibaly, who Jeff Capel should be excited about, had 15 points and 7 rebounds, and the Drame twins continue to have good tournaments as Fousseyni had 17 points and 11 rebounds and Hassan had 13 points and 8 rebounds.

The USA U19 Men's team got everything that they could handle in the final from Mali, only building up a bit of the lead in the second half and winning 93-79, meaning that Bruce Weber did something that John Calipari could not and giving the United States the chance to be the reigning champion of every event by the end of this year. On the subject of U19 championships, teams are in the middle of the process to qualify for the next edition in two years before this one is even played. The U17 Centrobasket tournament is being held in San Juann Puerto Rico and finished today. The hosts and Mexico, which won the title game 61-56, earned two spots in next year's U18 Americas tournament that will qualify teams for the world championship in 2021 with wins yesterday and then today the Dominican Republic beat Guatemala 55-40 to grab the last spot.

The Women's U19 World Championship starts at the end of the week, but teams around the world continue to prepare for the one in 2021 as well. Europe's U18 Championships concluded today with teams trying to stay in Division A for the chance to play in that tournament in two years' time. The regional advantage of it being held in Sarajevo did not help much as Bosnia and Herzegovina lost to Lithuania 69-63 to be the last team relegated after Serbia and Croatia had been demoted with losses the day before.

A lot of future competitions have had their draws conducted recently.

The USA Women's team is participating in the AmeriCup again after years of only participating when necessary for qualification. They ended up with all four South American teams Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, and Paraguay. The other group will have Canada, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and hosts Puerto Rico. Duke participation in tournament, which will be played at the end of September, is still unknown.

Qualifiers for the men's tournament in 2021 were also drawn with the top three teams in each group advancing. The United States was put together with the Bahamas, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. The other group from the northern half will contain Canada, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and the US Virgin Islands. Panama is being grouped in with the South American teams again and joins Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Venezuela are in the other group.

EuroBasket Women 2021 qualifiers will see the winners of these groups and the five best runners up join hosts Spain and France:

San Juan, Puerto Rico, which seems to hosts everything these days, was the site of the U17 Centrobasket tournament that qualified its top three teams for next summer's Americas U18 Championship that will send teams to the 2021 World Championship. Mexico edged the hosts 65-60 for the title, but both teams had already clinched spots for next year with wins yesterday. The last spot was taken by the Bahamas, which held off the Dominican Republic 85-83.

Qualification for tournaments far in the future continued with the European U18 Championships finishing today. Qualification is not direct from this tournament, but teams needed to make it to Division A next summer to stay in the qualification process for the 2021 World U19 Championship. Division A was held in Volos and Portaria in Greece and Spain was the expected champion. The most prestigious European youth competition on the women's side finished today as Division A of the U20 Championship was played in Klatovy in the Czech Republic. Italy beat Russia 70-67 to win the championship, but there was a lot at stake at the other end of the standings. Belarus and Germany found themselves getting dropped to Division B for next summer with losses yesterday and Portugal joins them after a 60-56 loss to the Netherlands.

There were no surprises among the quarterfinal winners as the first four teams clinched spots in Olympic qualifying from AfroBasket Women. Nigeria, Mali, Mozambique, and Senegal will also continue to play for the championship. The other two spots will go to the winners of Angola-Egypt and Democratic Republic of Congo-Ivory Coast.

It was the last day of AfroBasket Women and Nigeria defended their crown as they will likely continue to be the powerhouse on the continent if they can keep bringing in some of the large number of American players with ties to the country.

The draw was also conducted to determine which of the six teams advancing from this tournament will be in which groups for the next stage of Olympic qualifying. Former Duke assistant Hernando Planells made his coaching debut for New Zealand's U17 Girl's team as they played in the Oceania championships in Paita, New Caledonia. They lost to Australia 88-41 in the final, which is about as expected and the real test will be next year when the two teams compete in the U18 Asia Championship.

The USA team only had 11 current pros trying out for it so UConn's Olivia Nelson-Ododa took the 12th spot. We can all only wonder what kind of scandal this would be if this happened on the men's side.

Cool opportunity for Williams to play with Tina Charles and Sylvia Fowles! Be interesting to see what the rotation of bigs looks like; you'd have to guess that Fowles is a shoe-in to start (though that could be my Lynx bias speaking), but things could go a bunch of different ways from there, with Charles, Williams, Dolson all players you'd likely primarily describe as centers.

Tina Charles will never ever claim to be a center even if it is best for her in certain lineups.

As I complained about earlier, if the senior men's team could have put together a strong enough team to win the World Cup, the United States would have been the holders of every single available FIBA title at the same time, but now they will have to wait at least another four years. I am not sure that we have ever simultaneously held all the trophies and it would have been a tremendous accomplishment.

Chelsea Gray joined the United States team for their exhibition tour shortly after her wedding. The big news is that they lost their last exhibition to Oregon today. The team heads to Argentina next for games on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. The games do not mean anything for the team since they have already qualified for the Olympics, but the other teams are trying to advance to the final round. Sofia Roma did not play as Puerto Rico was close to upsetting Canada in their pre-Olympic qualifying game, but lost 84-80. Jennifer O'Neill had 21 points and ex-James Madison player Jazmon Gwathmey had 16 points. In the win, ex-DII player Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe had 27 points and 11 rebounds, ex-UConn player Kia Nurse had 17 points, and ex-Pepperdine player Miranda Ayim had 11 points.

Sofia Roma did not play as Puerto Rico had a tougher time than expected with Cuba, but survived 83-81 to advance to the next stage of qualification. Jazmon Gwathmey had 15 points and 7 rebounds, rookie Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage from Wichita State had 14 points and 14 rebounds, and ex-Oregon State player Ali Gibson had 12 points.

The Olympic qualifying process was formalized today:

On the women's side, these groups will play in February:

The United States and Japan and two teams from their groups will qualify while the top three teams in the other groups will join them.

A bunch of Canadian players already announced their participation, but we will see how that goes by late June.

If he can get other players in the diaspora to play for the team in the future, they could quickly improve their position in Africa.

Mike Fratello will take over from Jeff Van Gundy for the games played during the season:

Unlike Van Gundy, he did have past international experience before taking this position so he should be able to adapt quickly although Van Gundy was apparently an excellent motivator in this format so that side may be different.

The South American U17 Boy's Championship finished up over the weekend in Santiago, Chile. Brazil beat Argentina in a thriller to win the title, but both had already qualified for next year's U18 Americas Championship and it was Uruguay joining them for the last spot.
