We (UVA) just hit the century mark vs Marshall. (On a 3 by a MANAGER, no less.... not a walkon, a MANAGER.)

If I didn't see it with my own eyes, I'd never believe it.

Anybody got an over/under on how many games until the next time UVA breaks 100? (darn, no crying-laughing emoji)

I still think the football team will do it before the basketball teams does it again.

Maybe the soccer team too.

Might want to catch Wake tonight, favored vs Cornell....KenPom has them as preliminary underdogs in their final 17 (seventeen) tiffs.
This should give Danny Manning plenty of time to pack. Does he have a tie dyed luggage set?

So to which one of these two teams will Duke inexplicably lose.

Hopefully since we play good defense the answer is neither, but Duke is always good for one bad loss in January.

I am starting to really get on the Pack bandwagon. They look very legit and, as I said on the podcast, they have a ridiculously favorable ACC schedule this year (random, but sometimes random works out nicely for you). I'll predict right now that they will finish in the top 4 in the league and I have a hard time seeing how they win less than 10 games in conference play (probably more than that).

Statistically had no business winning this game. Badly Lost the turnover battle. Badly Lost the fouls and free throw battle. Their best player has a career day. Still won.

Keatts was given a new contract and $500k pay raise this year. State is working to make sure he stays. Going his ties to the NC/VA area are enough to help tie him down.

Well, we don't play at BC this year, so the chance of losing to BC are pretty slim. We play at Wake next Tuesday in our first true road game. Which means that Wake is the easy answer among those two teams. But Wake is SOOO bad this year that it would be a pretty epic loss.

I don't think we'll lose to either this year.

Does anyone here understand the methodology behind the BPI?

Because right now it's predicting an 88.6% likelihood of a UVA victory over FSU tomorrow. Even as a wahoo who thinks we've got a great team this year, I couldn't imagine winning 9 of 10 games we played against the Noles.

Looking at the schedule, neither team has really proved much, and I can't imagine a loss to Villanova is that significant a black mark for FSU statistically.

In my view, they push the "conference lead" far more than they should, and so the leader in the Pac-12, for instance, gets more credit for that than the second place team in the ACC does for its standing in the conference. I don't know the mechanics of the rating, but it was created by ESPN, so the primary goal is clicks on their web page.

Great road win for State but it doesn't make up for the face plant against TAMU. Different sport I realize but State's entire athletic program is the poster child for unfulfilled expectations. Somewhere there has to be a poster emblazoned with "Is He Addicted to Gambling?" It's a picture of a mother of 3 begging for change on the Vegas strip because her husband bet State to cover in Chapel Hill.

Not sure about ESPN's formula, but TRank (Bart Torvik) has the same 89% chance for UVa using his formula. I'd imagine Pomeroy favors UVa by a similar probability. Probably a little bit lower than Torvik and ESPN (because they rate FSU a little higher than Torvik does), but I'd guess it is still a REALLY high probability.

To be honest...lost our OC. Lost our OL coach. Co-DC Ted Roof off to App State. Best WR isn't playing. Best defensive player not playing...against a good SEC team. I was hoping we'd put up a fight...and we did until the Pick-6. /shrug

The problem is folks expect that State has ever had a super successful football program. Right now is about as best as State football has ever been. Top 25 recruiting classes. Back to back 9 win seasons. Tons of players getting drafted in the NFL, including multiple first rounders.

I'm annoyed we collapsed in the second half of the game, but overall...State football is in as good of shape as it's ever been in (which does deserve a decent * in that that's never been more than a fringe top 20-25 program)

Kyle Guy straight 🔥🔥🔥🔥 late in the half to give my Wahoos a big lead at the half - up 42-23. Some of those late 3s were Reddick-esque. Just coming off of screens and pulling - didn't even care if they were contested. Even had a 1-on-1 step back deep 3. I don't think we'll lose many games when EITHER Guy or Jerome are on fire like that.

FSU is dangerously athletic, but fundamentally poor (like that's any different than most years). Still, if they get super hot playing hero-ball, they can still get back into it.

Of course I have FSU +8.5 and the under 130.5 in the degenerate contest. Not looking too good on either count. I am really bad at this.

I really think we are much better than usual this year offensively. Not as good defensively though. Fortunately, FSU has missed a ton of FTs and decent looks from 3, and also has several unforced (or semi-forced) turnovers. In other words, I'm actually much more surprised by FSU's low score than UVA's high score.

At least the scoring pace has slowed down. Only 20 pts have been scored in the first 10 minutes of the second half. I have a shot at the under. Typically I tend to see more total points in the second half vs. the first half.

As far as FSU +8.5 goes, however, FSU is down by 21. Surprising! and it would take quite rally to get to within 8.5, and to do so would probably cost me the o/u. If I can split this one, I'll be happy

Yeah - a TON of bricks out there. Neither of these teams allow much going to the basket/in the paint, so if you're not shooting jumpers well, it's a tough go to put points on the board. Refs have also allowed a good amount of bodying on drives by both teams, which hurts converting in the paint.

Additionally, UVa almost NEVER turns it over, and also rarely pushes the ball OFF of turnovers, so nobody's getting anything easy in transition either. Basically, UVA in the first half was draining a ton of jumpers and built a big lead. other than that, it's been fairly similar quality of ball - slight edge to us in just playing smart and clean on D.

Welp, we were up 65-36 with a little over 2 min left. Then the walkons came in and FSU started pressing like crazy.

65-52 final. Advanced metrics sites won't account for it due to the walkons struggling with like 7 turnovers in the last 2 min leading to 16 points for the Noles..... but we dominated this contest. I was surprised.

That was a total thrashing......much worse than the final score. Obviously the Hoos D is back.....and just as obviously, Leonard Hamilton continues to fall totally flat on his face in certain big games.......often in the NCAAT.
