Running totals, how much do you have now? It's 0841, and we have nearly six right now. Expecting up to five more. That's here near High Point where we reside..

Apex has about 3 inches, and seems like it is changing to sleet and freezing rain.

Started an hour ago in Atlee, just north of Richmond, ground is covered and it's coming down. Should have 3-4 inches by noon.

It is raining in Hampton Roads so no snow. Checking the weather radar and local news indicates the snow line is just to the West between Suffolk and Franklin, and to the North as it is snowing in Williamsburg.

I hate to say it, but I hate getting snow before Christmas. Throwing us behind at Fedex, maybe two days. But we will get caught up, even it means working next Sunday..

Greenville, SC

Near Furman University north of town we got 2 inches of mixed crud (snow, sleet, etc.).

Furman had several trees down* and lost power this morning for a couple of hours. Power is back on now. (No, I don't reside at FU, but I work there and live one stoplight away.)

10 miles north of Furman they have maybe 4 inches and further north just in NC (Flat Rock) over 12".

*Furman moved from downtown Greenville to its current campus north of town a bit over a half century ago with lovely malls lined by oak trees that have a life span of 50 to 60 years. You can do the math on that one. We now have a large number of lovely, BIG, old oaks that are about ready to expire. There is a plan in place to replace them over the next five years or so with different oak species that have a 250 year life span. When we get storms like this a few of the elders tend to check out early.

Here in bucolic Wallburg, we easily have six inches on the ground, and there's no end in sight.

Hi Curtis: Where in North Durham? We live off of Bivins road a couple of miles North of Aldersgate Church. I was just outside and measured about 6 inches.

Raleigh here, I didn't measure but somewhere around 4-5" in the yard (probably 2-3 on the road). Pretty much turned to sleet/ice/freezing rain here now, so hoping to keep power so I can watch the the Panthers turn their season around a game too late for a playoff push.

10 inches, conservatively, here in Rougemont, equidistant between Derm and Roxboro. Power has flickered twice and while I was typing this note, the power failed for about 10 seconds. Modem reboot...and <submit reply>. 2:41 pm

To mix coachspeak: Not a frickin', dagummed snowflake up here in Alaska (just outside the beltway). There's a conspiracy in Greensboro to keep it in NC...

Off Umstead Rd, near Cole Mill--not too far from you! I measured it on my deck by poking a ruler into the snow on a table.

Turned to a sleet mixture around noon. Seems to have stopped for now. They say another inch or two coming later. Right now we have 10.25 inches on the ground.

It amused me to contemplate the existence of a beltway in Alaska …

Yeah that is close. We essentially live at the corner of Craig and Bivins

Just west of Richmond, VA we have easily 9". Maybe closer to a foot. This area was caught with its pants down. The forecast was 1-3". Now all the plows and such are trying to clear the Interstates while the main roads are as bad as the neighborhood roads. I learned to drive in upstate NY, and this is a slippery mess. Not necessarily the depth, but the consistency is not much better than ice somehow even though it is mush. Weird snowstorm. The whole deal is unusual.

You were lucky. In south Durham, lights flickered just before 10am but didn’t stay on. Finally back on about 5.

Glad our community’s utility lines are all underground so we would have more secure power.

14.5 inches in Elkin, NC. I have a Subaru Outback that usually kills in the snow but it's so deep it's over the bumper and I cannot even get out of my driveway. Lots of shoveling tomorrow I guess.

Do you have Piedmont Electric? I have become addicted to their outage viewer. outageviewer.pemc.org:88

Yes I do and I was just told about the outage viewer yesterday, my newest hotlink. From the moment I typed my last post, 2:41 pm yesterday, until 7:30 pm, we had power outages for about 10 seconds every 7-10 minutes, never experienced that before, probably 40-50 10 second-outages during those 5 hours, quite annoying.

Today, trapped at home, wandering around the house in my pajamas singing Liza Minnelli songs. I used to be such a stud.

Can't we at least get proper use of the past participle on the thread titles?

Not even enough to cover the grass in Northern Virginia but, due to public blow back from a spectacularly poor decision about 5 years ago, still enough for a snow day for this teacher!! :D

No snow here. But it is cold. Our high temperature was only 66 degrees today.
