Look, Nate is a Bad!#% and all, but even he has probably met his match here.

Our #2 seed, Shane Battier, faaces the #15 Nate James. These guys were teammates and love each other. In some ways, they were similar players in that they both were warriors who did the dirty work and did what it took to make their team a winner.

I love Nate, but... well, we'll see how the vote goes.

He's about to get run over by a freight train ...

He's about to get run over by a freight train ...

The fact that Nate James, one of the all time favorite "non-superstar" guys, is getting shut out right now may be a clear indication that Battier is the one to beat in this tourney.

Shane Battier... the perfect Dukie.

... it's gotta be Battier. I really like both of these guys. Put Nate up against several of the other finalists and he would have my vote. However, it's hard to compete against a future President of the US!

Shane Battier... the perfect Dukie.

This may actually be true (although Grant Hill also looms large). The guy is Duke's equivalent of Bill Bradley.

Well put.

In my mind, this vote is like trying to decide who to root for if Duke were playing Duke for the national championship. UGH! These two guys are simply why I love Duke basketball. Nate gets my vote, though, b/c of his grace and dignity in bowing out of his starting spot. I have no doubt that Shane would have handled the situation the same way -- luckily we didn't have to find out! Here's a shout-out to the inaugural member of the Nate James Hall of Fame!

Shane dropped a 3 at games end last night on a pass from T-mac to defeat Kobe's Lakers in the season opener for both. Those big shots keep on coming!

If I were Tim Russert, I call this one for the President Battier.

I LOVE Nate James and everything he brought to the game. But to pit him against Shane.... I don't think so. IMHO, Shane exemplified EVERYTHING Duke. Class, great student, humility, great BB player willing to do whatever it takes, a leader among men, etc. GO SHANE!

I also LOVE Nate James and everything he represented at Duke... and continues to contribute to the Duke community. But, Shane is hard to not favor... I'm voting for Shane, NOT against Nate...
