Yes, not totally unexpected. But still hard to digest. Duke never had a better ambassador. Knew everyone even remotely associated with Duke athletics. And she always made everyone of them feel better. Every single time.

A wonderful lady. May she know her peace.

I knew Mary at Duke during my college years. She was a great friend of Duke sports, a huge basketball and football fan. She was always cheerful and upbeat -- a real delight. Her career at Duke was well-placed given her love of Duke sports. I will miss her very much.

I have many fond memories of visiting Duke with my family while growing up. A good number of them involved a visit to Mary's office and lengthy discussions of Duke athletics, from breaking news to the ancient days.

I really liked Mary. Sad news.

I am so sorry to hear of her passing. Mary was a terrific person. And loved all things Duke. And she was a great asset to the athletic program.
