awhom, I'm hearing reports that Australia v. Philippines had a brawl that reduced the game to 5 v 3? Kind of like that Minnesota-Alabama game from earlier this year. Looking forward to your next roundup, and hoping you can get some more details.

Those Phillipinos were out there trying to hurt people . . . not cool.

The video also confirms that Thon Maker is probably the last person I'd pick to bring to a fight.

When play resumed the Philippines had 3 players left --- one of whom was Gabe Norwood, who was on that 2006 George Mason final four team.

Two then fouled out, and play was stopped. You cannot continue with only one player.

More recap and videos here. (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/early-lead/wp/2018/07/02/massive-australia-philippines-basketbrawl-leads-to-13-ejections-forces-cancellation/?utm_term=.0381e7274744)

That big Boomer needs to learn that when you deck someone like that in front of his friends, you better immediately get your head up, turn around and face the room. South Georgia bar fighting 101. :D

The best part of the video is when Thon jumps -- feet first -- into the fight. Too much!!

A few brawls like this would be all you'd need to increase interest in college basketball. I've heard that this sort of thing happened a bit in the early days of the ACC and helped build interest in the new league.

The whole Thon Maker sequence is fantastic. He just jumps onto a group of guys and knocks like 6 down at once. And, if nothing else, he can take a punch. He shook that rabbit punch off like it was nothing.

So all-out basketball brawls are rare, but I'm seeing a pattern:

Today, someone (is he on the Phillipine's team?) threw a chair at an Australian player (https://twitter.com/rickm18/status/1013768593077440513?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5 Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1013768593077440513&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.washingtonpost.com%2Fnew s%2Fearly-lead%2Fwp%2F2018%2F07%2F02%2Fmassive-australia-philippines-basketbrawl-leads-to-13-ejections-forces-cancellation%2F).

Back in 2011, Greece and Serbia had a brawl, and OKC Thunder center Nenad Kristic got held in jail overnight for throwing a chair at an opponent. Here's video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFvluNEJs_I).

So remember, if there's an international basketball qualifying match that descends into a brawl, odds are high someone will throw a chair.

Bobby Knight is coaching international ball?

I think FIBA should invite the Philippines not to show up for about the next two FIBA tournaments....There is clearly a thug culture in that program.

both teams should be booted for this and two more fib events.

Don't think that would be fair to Australia, their bench was held back despite having to watch their teammates getting mobbed. Beside Maker and the guy who used his forearm in the lane, not sure I can find another guy on the offensive, they looked like they were getting drilled from behind and just trying to survive the 13 on 5 attack. Do whatever needs to be done to Maker and the forearm guy but let the rest play.

Philippines absolutely. I'd even add on another event for the post brawl selfie that showed just how clueless and classless they are. They were proud and preening.

Did anyone else notice the giant Australian coach? It was Luc Longley. The Filipinos are lucky he didn’t get involved. “I’m on the brute squad. You are the brute squad”.

It was certainly a weird new item to wake up to this morning.

The Philippines had their remaining players commit fouls quickly to end the game thankfully.

The actions during the fight are pretty clear. FIBA will probably do more investigation to get all of the pre and post information they can get before making a disciplinary decision.

Clearly this all could have been avoided if the Philippines was voted to host the World Cup instead of China.

Maker was pretty vulnerable when he jumped into the fray. He was lucky the Phillipines don't have Chris Paul on their team.

How can you possibly recommend equal treatment for those two teams?

Did anyone here watch The Boondocks on Cartoon Network years ago? They basically had an entire episode(s?) dedicated to the role of the thrown chair in a fight/brawl.
