Here are the things that have happened since the last time Duke beat a higher seeded team in the NCAA tourney:

Sam and Donald had never even stepped foot on campus. Kyrie Irving was in diapers. Gas cost $1.09 a gallon. Movie tickets were $4. Nelson Mandela became president of SAfrica. OJ Simpson fled from police. The Lion King, Pulp Fiction, and Shawshank Redemption were released. Beavis and Butthead were popular and so was NYPD Blue. Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, and Celine Dion were on top of the charts. Tiger Woods was still an amateur golfer. Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Jamesis Winston had not been born!

I was really impressed with the way Grayson handled himself. He sounded pretty upbeat, not down on himself for missing a bunch of shots. Seems like a really good sign for tomorrow's game!!

Thanks guys for another great podcast!!

Time marches on .a lot to reflect on in that post.
We still pay 3.25 for the movies 😁.
That made me feel very old .

Jason was making all of these insane references, and meanwhile all I remember about 1994 was watching Shining Time Station starring wholesome children's television presenter George Carlin.

Hope everybody enjoys the interviews on the pod and the pictures on my Twitter. I had an awesome time on press row.

Maybe this was answered in the podcast, but how many times have we played a higher seed in the tournament since 1994?

2016 when we were the 4 and lost to #1 Oregon immediately comes to mind.

Did you not listen?!?!?! Grrrrr, you will be getting no sporks from me.

We have played a higher seed 4 times since beating #1 seed Purdue as a #2 in 1994.

1994 Duke lost to Arkansas (1 seed)
2003 Duke (3) lost to Kansas (2)
2013 Duke (2) lost to Louisville (1)
2016 Duke (4) lost to Oregon (1)

Sorry Jason, I can only listen to podcasts while driving to work or running, and I have done neither since its release. Dropping a bonus pod on a weekend has totally thrown me off 8-). Nevertheless, I hereby forfeit all sporks until I actually listen to it.

This strikes me as one of those highly misleading stats that opposing fans will try to throw in our faces. You haven’t beaten a higher seed in 24 years! Coach K is overrated and is always overseeded! Yet we’re talking about four games.

This is a new era with the one and dones now prevalent on the Duke roster. Maybe 2016 had some of that influence, however, I wouldn't draw any conclusions about our chances with Kansas from the past history.

I wanted to comment on Sam’s take from getting to interview Grayson in person. Last weekend when I was in Pittsburgh I was at the game along with some friends. One of them told me earlier in the day that she wasn’t really a fan of Grayson and was ready for him to graduate, something I’ve seen written on here by others. However, after the game she said that seeing him play in person humanized him more and changed her opinion somewhat. While most people don’t get to go to games in person it’s good to keep in mind that all these players are just young people in a high pressure environment trying to do the best they can. Grayson’s put a lot of time in and been through all the highs and lows. I hope he comes out today on fire like he was against Notre Dame in the ACC tournament and leads us back to the Final Four!
