Mike Krzyzewski had an interesting take earlier this week, noting that Allen, the lone senior in the rotation, is expected to be the leader of this young team but it's been tough to lead on the floor with him playing off the ball. Allen is averaging 22.3 points, 5.3 assists and 2.3 steals in this three-game run, leading the team in scoring in all three wins and seeing a lot more of the ball on the offensive end.

"Since Marvin's been out, we've switched his role. We kind of flip-flopped it today based on matchups, but for the most part he's bringing the ball up and he can be in control of the team," Krzyzewski said on Sunday after the win. "As our leader, that puts him in a more prominent spot and the kids respond a little bit better."

Having Allen run the team allows him to set the pace and get himself going in rhythm - certainly not perfect- but there is no better option. Duval can be a safety net for teams the press and Duval can attack on drives when there is space. It seems to be working but time will tell. Bagley is
able to create better than Javin and this provides more versatility particularly late in games when everyone seems to get tired. If Allen continue to play like this- Duke will be a tough out.

The question will be what happens when Bagley returns. An offense oriented toward getting the ball into Bagley's hands will be different from the one Allen has been thriving in these last few games whether he or Duval is primarily in charge of bringing the ball up and initiating.

The team needs to play inside out so the staff needs to ensure Bagley knows to kick the ball out to shooters when opponents double team him. The Virginia Tech game is a great example because Carter did a very good job of passing out of double teams. He had four assists in the game.

Bagley is a great offensive player, almost unstoppable at times, so he tends to look to score every time he has the ball in his hands but if he learns to pass the ball back outside to open shooters the team will benefit.

Easier said than done...

I do have some significant concerns with the offense. We do a lot of screens, dribble handoffs and perimeter passing that is designed to give the ballhandler a read in our motion system. But it creates the need for someone to make a one on one play and break a defender down. I would rather see more pick and roll particularly with our mobile bigs. We dont seem to get enough action rolling to the rim in our halfcourt set. It gets us bogged down vs good defenses. Maybe we run more picks with Allen at pg.

I do think Duval getting to the rim before the defense is set is a big weapon for us. If he can finish at a high rate, I think we will see more of him on the attack. He seems to recognize when a defense is tired and he can go.
