We now move to the other side of the bracket with #2 seed Shane Battier and #31 seed Dahntay Jones. IMMO, the only question here is if Shane will eclipse the 90% markestablished by Hurley as the high mark in the first round.

voted for Dahntay, just cuz I know Shane will win, and somebody has to vote for him, he has the best Dunk in the history IMO. For your viewing pleasure (a repost I know, but appropriate here, as its the only real argument for voting for him):

Who is the male human being;
Who sent countless Duke foes a fleeing?

Who in one night of true romance;
Made your mom do the fertile egg dance?

The egg became one embryo;
That 'bro was Yo! now Fo Sho!

Count the months that passed they was nine;
Then that doctor spanked your behind!

To question, yes I shall bother;
Tell me now, who is your father?

----------

How's that? Convert?

All of this is explained in the sticky thread at the top of the board, but the brackets are in a google spreadsheet that can be found here (http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pH3kFkBPtbf-48Vop1vmdLA&hl=en).

The winner of Battier-Dahntay goes on to face the winner of Nate and Wojo. By the way, the seedings were based on the vote totals from the initial Favorite Dukie polls where multiple votes were allowed and where we eliminated something like 60 players to get down to the 32 currently in the brackets.

I too voted for Dahntay, knowing full well that Battier would advance (and Battier may get my vote in every round here on out).

The Dahntay dunk over UVA holds special meaning for me. In 2003, we had lost at UVA the past two years. As you may guess from my name, this caused a great deal of pain and suffering to have us lost twice in a row to a team that we were clearly better than. Those UVA teams were good, but we were much, much better.

I remember in that game that we were leading big and then UVA began making a run. That dunk ended the game. I think there were still 6 or 7 minutes left, but the energy was sucked out of the building. The fact that Dahntay had the cojones to do push-ups on their baseline just takes it over the top for me. To some UVA fans it exists as their Laettner stomp.

The classiest thing ever? No, not at all. But as the team preview said, Duke has had its share of 12-letter guys, and Dahntay was one of the best.

Are you saying that there was a better defender than Battier at Duke? I say no way (and raise you 3 Defender of the year trophies). He stole the ball, he blocked shots, he took many, many charges.

And then there's this block (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/inside_game/magazine/basketball/college/news/2001/03/06/cb/)

Billy
King

The debate as to which of these were better would be tough. Battier was the better help-defender for sure, but Billy was better one-on-one, IMO.

I assume he means one-on-one defender. Shane is, IMO the greatest team/help defender in Duke history, but one-on-one I think you can make as strong a case for King, Shel, G-Man, Amaker, and maybe even GHill. (That would be a pretty good team, assuming Grant could score 50-60 per game . . . )

Yeah but I was assuming Billy would cost us at least that many points on offense :D

Seriously, I agree completely. Shel was no slouch either, and Tommy was good for 10-12 a night as well.

By far my favorite Duke player. All around - from leadership to character to defense to clutch shooting... He did it all & with class

I love them both, but as we all know, as a Duke favorite there is no one who can beat President-of-the-future Shane.

Don't forget that his back foot was on Vandelinden's crotch as he did the pushups.

In terms of class and composure he was, IMO, the opposite of Battier.
