So I was looking at Watzones pictures; Kyle Singler looks pretty ripped for a freshman. Am I crazy?

He definately has muscle mass. That will help him contribute this year. I don't think we'll be talking about Singler needing to hit the weight room next summer.

I'm not trying to stir anything up at all - just curious because I flat out don't know: Does anyone have any insight into whether Singler tested out going pro first and skipping college? Or any insight into if he's likely a one - two year player?

Any insight at all? Has Singler talked about the subject at all?

Dad was a football player, so at least he has buff genes!

Was he old enough to go pro under the new rules?

-EarlJamWith the change in rules, it was not an option for Kyle or any freshmen, until they are out of school one year and at least 19 years old,

except in cases like John Riek where he presumably graduated last year and is spending a year of post-graduate in HS, and then can go straight to the NBA next year rather than being a class of 2008 in college recruit.

Never have such finely-toned muscles made this blue devil so happy

Aside from a 30 footer from JJ, that just may be the sexiest thing I have ever seen.

To take a line from Ocean's Eleven:)

From the department of "I told you so," for the better part of a year I've been saying he can play inside at an elite level. I hope some of you are starting to agree.

From behind I could have sworn that was John Basedow

Not to insult Singler or anything, but that picture only shows definition, not mass. Low body fat % + plays tons of sports = very defined shoulders, arms. But that's not mass.

All these guys have mass - I think Brand was 260 in that phot, Boozer was about 275 or 280, and Williams was about 255. Kyle is like, 220 or 230 tops.

Muscle is more dense than fat: a ripped 220 pounder is going to be smaller yet stronger than a chubby 235 pounder.

Mass is mass, Sean May certainly proved that - and I don't really think Brand, Boozer or Williams were fat at all...

THe photo is great but what is more convincing to me is the comments of the players, particularly Demarcus. If I'm not mistaken, he said that Singler can definitely play down low and is stronger than most realize.

He's definitely tall and muscular enough to hold his own if we stick him down low for the majority of the game--which we will probably have to because Zoubek does not look promising at all--but I don't see him as physical enough to actually pose a serious threat to a guy like Hansbrough. That's where TK comes in. Though he's only 6'6", he's got the mass, the wingspan, and the bad attitude you need to go toe-to-toe with Hansbrough on the blocks for extended minutes. His post defense will need some refinement since he's been a wing his entire life, but I'm sure K knows a thing or two about that and will be happy to pass it along.

I must say he was flexed when I took the photo. He doesn't look all that intimidating up and down the court, but is very lean and in about as good of physical shape as a freshman could be.

Where does this idea of Taylor King being some aggressive inside beast coming from? I have not seen anything to support that at all.

It's a good thing you're not one of our coaches if you think Taylor King is going to lock down Hansbrough. Why not just say the hell with it and put Jordan Davidson on him?

We don't have a player who is going to lock down Tyler. Most teams are in the same position we are, however. He is going to get his 20 points, we just have to work around that problem.

Zoo pretty much shut him down at Cameron last year.

He will get his 20, but we can make it very hard. Throw multiple defenders at him (Zoubs, McClure, Thomas), throw in some double teams, and my personal favorite, make him chase King/Singler around the perimeter.

I feel like we've got a little Nick Horvath going on with our boy Taylor!

King is certainly no "aggressive inside beast-" he's a wing who's a bit chunky. But he is physically stronger than Kyle, and as such, I think that makes him a better candidate to match up against Hansbrough. Now K would be foolish to leave King guarding Hansbrough one-on-one--either Kyle or Lance (or even Zoubek) must be there to help. I'm just pointing out that King is a big guy for being 6'6"--he's built like a tight end--and that he is mean enough to not back down from Hansbrough.

Lord Ash
10-24-2007, 07:32 AM
Is he mean? I get a "I'll kill you with my 3s" sort of ruthlessness, rather than a "I'll get on the floor and bang with you" sort of ruthlessness. Keep in mind, I've never seen him play in person.

Ok, realize you're joking about Jordan, but Patrick Davidson could definitely take him.

- King isn't chunky at all anymore. He will likely not be able to guard a big man like Hansbrough with any success at all. However, he has a good wingspan and I imagine he will be able to grab his share of rebounds when on the court, as well as creating match-up problems on offense.

- Lance is still the 2nd strongest person (in terms of weight lifting) on the team behind DeMarcus. His slight build belies a very, very strong person.
