Meanwhile, after 8 games played and with the two biggest resume wins of any team in the field:

Duke unanimous No. 1 in AP poll; (http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/21587740/duke-blue-devils-unanimous-no-1-ap-poll-arizona-wildcats-top-25-0-3-week)

It ultimately took only a month for the Blue Devils to convince all the poll voters that they're the nation's top team. They had roughly half the first-place votes (33) in the preseason poll, climbed to 54 votes after beating then-No. 2 Michigan State in the Champions Classic in Chicago — and now own them all.

Other notes about the current Top 25 (https://collegebasketball.ap.org/poll/2018/4)

Arizona drops out altogether
ASU in for the first time in a long time at #13
ND, on the strength of their win over Wichita St, jumps all the way to #5 (sorry we don't get to see if Jason Evans prediction of a #1 seed for Wichita if they had beaten ND comes true)
The team down the road didn't slide much, but is out of the top 10 at #13
Miami comes in at #10 to give the ACC 3 in the Top 10
UVA makes it first appearance at the #18 spot just behind Louisville, who moved up two spots to #17

Sigh. UNC badly loses the first game where they play a quality opponent and only drops 3 spots.

I'd bet it wouldn't be unanimous on DBR.:p

If Bagley University was a choice, I'd vote for it as #1

Congratulations (sort of) to Arizona, who just set the record for the largest fall in AP poll history. It was no easy feat, but three dispiriting losses dropped them from #2 to unranked. And because the only way for the record to be broken would be for the #1 team to fall out of the polls completely, this record may be Arizona's for a long time.

We'll designate it as a record here as I'm sure some DBR voters cast their ballots for Arizona to be #1 each of the last couple weeks :o.

Louisville also went from no. 2 to unranked in a week, back in the 1986-'87 season.

So that was the year after their National Championship. What happened during the week preceding dropping out of the rankings? Do you have that handy?

in a triangle and 2, marvin bagley IS the triangle

I can see this being a big match up problem for teams that lack sufficient math skills.

I read in an article somewhere that they also fizzled in an early-season tournament, but it didn’t say which one. Here are their results for the season, including the 0-3 start.

Ouch! 3 losses in three days the Fri-Sun after Thanksgiving! And they failed to make the NCAA tournament.

You beat me to it. I heard this factoid after the Mildcats lost to Purdue by double digits.

Florida moved from 7 to 6. I wonder if they would've moved to #1 if they had beaten us. I know they would garner some first place votes.

True, but only 20 teams were ranked then.

I think it is just a few more weeks for Duke to overtake UCLA for all time weeks ranked #1 in the AP poll.

You are correct. We hope.

UCLA: 134*

Duke: 129

UCLA has already been unanimous #1 for the last 78 straight weeks in the big bawler poll, which DID involve substantial "collection of souvenirs."

The big bawler poll also has Lonzo Ball as the best player in UCLA history, leading rebounder, leading scorer, most assists, most blocks, most steals and tip-offs won.

But did Sam Gilbert help you with the research?

We have less %Level 1 violations "on the books" now than they did during the 2016-7 season...

Roy walked about 3 feet in front of me at the game yesterday and I think I might have uttered a "dadgumit" at some point last night. Have we been infected by something?

Nope. Not like UNC unless we see Carter, Trent and Duval still in Duke blue in 2020.

Come to think of it I wouldn't mind that at all. :)
