Rules for the thread are easy-peasy - any time we see an upset brewing, we talk about something else, whether it's the World Tiddlywinks Championships, or that time we got shanghaied for sunglasses, or fight over which is better, red wine or white. Anything but the upset, alright? For example, I like seeing a Bluejay. I know they are cranky bullies that have been known to beat up 'Cats, but still . . .

Extra points for cleverness, redeemable at the front counter, for a wide array of blue sporks. (Winners responsible for all taxes.)

So, on to not jinxing. May this year rival the inaugural iteration and enjoy the ride!

Different if it was a back and forth game or a game where UF choked or lost on a buzzer beater or wild play. UF never led, or led for a minute or two. The game was never safely in Florida's hands. At home. Not good.

To contrast with a comparable team, how would we feel if South Dakota (#96) beat us in Cameron in a game where we never really led and never really looked all that good?

Gotta give some more love to my college coaching crush, Chris Beard, whom I discussed a few weeks ago here:


No doubt NU underperformed, as I'm sure they're not 36 points worse than Texas Tech.

That said, wanted to praise TTU's coach Chris Beard, who is some kind of wizard and will be the hottest coaching name in college by the end of this season, imo. His one season spent at Arkansas-Little Rock is still the sickest coaching accomplishment in recent history, if you see what he did in the context of other surrounding Little Rock seasons (https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/arkansas-little-rock/).

While he wasn't able to duplicate that immediate success in his first year at Texas Tech, they now look VERY good in his second year. TTU should have their first 20-win season in over a decade (since Bob Knight) and may be a threat to KU in the Big 12. I mean, if TTU snaps KU's streak of winning the conference, we basically have to conclude that Beard IS a wizard.

Beard's next stop should be his last and will be at one of the blueblood programs, I'm sure. Dammit, don't let UNC get him.

Technically it is somewhere around 0-39 or so. There are a good 20 years or so in which Carolina used players that should have been declared academically inelliglbe. In another 20 years, they can say it is 0-59 again.

I really need to start taking better care of my health if I want to see this streak broken in my lifetime. I've probably only have another 30-40 years unless I get healthier.

Yurt7 is pretty good on offense, and is playing pretty well so far, but he is abysmal on defense. Loafing back on a secondary break by UNC, not rotating over in any useful way to prevent a driving lay up, giving up open 3s to Maye. Gad, he is useless on defense.
Still, Freeman is red hot from 3 (6-6) and NCSU has taken a 3 pt lead.

Despite having a big advantage in height in the post and useful depth in the post, UNC continues to get lots of easy looks right at the rim. Maye is coming out high, where he must be guarded due to his 3pt shooting, but NCSU's defense has no idea how to prevent UNC from getting layups while Maye is up top.

Despite nice passing in the post, NCSU just got too scared to even shoot on that possession.

On the other side though, Brunson still won that matchup. 31pts on a bum ankle/knee. His scoring, DiVincenzo's combo of scoring and glue plays, and Bridges' glue plays were unreal. Nova is absolutely fantastic.
