Leona is ranked as the top women's amateur golfer in the world. She was NCAA player of the year last year. She finished the 2nd stage of the LPGA Q School tied for 9th and easily could have advanced to the 3rd stage. Do well in the 3rd stage and its on to the LPGA.

However Leona is going to stay at Duke and graduate. She is not going to the 3rd stage.

I guess she typifies what is meant by "student-athlete."

Student athlete, something a cheating school down the road knows nothing about. A school and I use the term lightly, refuse to acknowledge by name for what I hope is a long life. GoDuke!

Good for her. I don't judge college athletes who leave school early because they can make a living at their sport without a degree. But i am very happy for those who choose to get a degree because they want one, in spite of what are likely considerable pressures to leave school.

As mentioned in the article, the reason she attended Q School even without the intent to turn pro immediately is that she was able to earn a spot on the Symetra Tour. Once her college season is over, she will play there and can also qualify for the 2019 LPGA Tour simply based on her performance there (2017 graduate Celine Boutier did just that recently).
