Not sure who Kyle Boone is, but I generally respect CBSSports MBB coverage. But leaving Derryck off the list of top transfers?

https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/unc-and-kansas-have-the-top-players-in-our-rankings-of-this-seasons-top-12-transfers/

Anyone familiar with the situation at USC? Looks like they return their starting backcourt with juniors McLaughlin (6' 1") and Stewart (6' 5").

I'll guess his uncle did not contribute to that article.

they got all excited about Dylan Smith who averaged a "monstrous" 13p/2.6r/1.9apg? At UNC-A? Remind me who they play?
Aside from him, i'm not sure who i would say DT should be considered more favorably against.

Hey now, be nice to UNCA.

I love Asheville and UNC-A is a fine place. I just don't get how 13ppg and <2apg at UNC-A is "monstrous", or even particularly worth salivating over compared to DT, who also averaged about 2apg his Fr. year while averaging slightly better than half the points of Dylan against vastly superior competition.
I'm not a die-hard DT defender, although i do think we would have been a better team last year had he stayed. I just think it's odd that a highly prized recruit to a high level basketball team who ended up transferring didn't get more attention in an article about transfer players.

I met Dylan during his one year at UNC-A. Watched him play a lot. He was not scared to shoot, too lazy to look up his fg percentage but I'm sure it was low.

Unless the FBI investigation derails them somehow, they should be one of the best and most experienced teams in the country, with both talented size and talented guards.

Not sure where the preseason polls will have USC, but they're in my top 10.

CBS (https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/college-basketball-rankings-duke-jumps-up-to-no-1-after-landing-marvin-bagley/)has them #9
Blue Ribbon (https://blueribbonyearbook.com/blogs/news/arizona-tops-blue-ribbons-37th-annual-preseason-rankings) has them #11
NBC (http://collegebasketball.nbcsports.com/2017/08/14/2017-18-college-basketball-preseason-top-25-2/)has them #12

If they live up to the preseason hype this year, you would have to think that Andy Enfield will be on the short list for some very major jobs (Lousiville???). I wonder if he would leave a school he built into a strong program for a program with more tradition.

Not an LA guy, but I do live in SoCal and am surrounded by SC folks, including my brother and sister-in-law.

Football is first, second and third. Basketball may come on the radar if they beat UCLA, but I never, ever hear SC fans talk about their basketball team.

USC men's basketball attendance in '16-'17 not in the Top 100. Another reference shows them to average 4,625/game(105th in nation).

Kind of funny how college football can be so big in a city that can't keep an nfl team for more than a handful of years. What a crazy market LA is.

Maybe it speaks to the basis of the loyalty. Loyalty to a college is deeper than to a pro team? That concept would also impact the Pay to Play issue in college basketball, wouldn't it? I guess this is a whole different discussion.

I suspect you are over-thinking it. USC has decades of tradition and success including national championships and Heisman Trophies. The Ram were mostly middling, sometimes bad, and have been gone for decades.

Also, yes, LA is by nature an odd market.

USC was pretty good at Pay to Play back in the day.

ETA: UCLA too, on the basketball side.

He is a Duke hater - went after Grayson Allen very hard last year, unfairly in many situations.
