In "kind of" related to the thread about Serena Williams, her greatness and her pregnancy, we get this racist crapola from Ilie Nastase, serving as the captain of the Romanian team. I won't quote it, since it is truly offensive (http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/tennis/ilie-nastase-under-itp-investigation-after-reported-racist-comment-about-serena-williams-pregnancy/news-story/5617e7b0e73086430062d9db9c5d9321).

That was on Thursday. On Friday he doubled down, not racially, but against women. He incited the crowd and drove the UK's Johanna Konta to tears, using abusive language, attacked the Brit captain (Anne Keothavong) in the same fashion and finally attacked the umpire using abusive language. Again, I will not quote, but you can read it (http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/tennis/ilie-nastase-expelled-from-fed-cup-tie-after-a-foulmouthed-rant-which-left-johanna-konta-in-tears/news-story/04bdd6efa5b91bdc1670c498b64f6aa1).

For this, he was tossed from the tournament, ejected from the grounds and had his accreditation revoked. Further sanctions seem likely. Nastase was great in his time, but he is stuck in the past. He's proven himself to be an ill-tempered old man (he's 70) who doesn't respect either tennis or women.

You forgot to mention that earlier, he had inappropriately asked Keothavong for her room number. (She's a married woman, but even if she weren't...) But I guess THAT behavior is a-okay with you, huh, Jim3K ;) ?

I did neglect that, but it's confirmation of his disrespect for women. He thinks he can own them. I suspect that I thought him to be so unrealistic on the point that his cruising was ignorable as obviously not genuine. Probably only crude banter. [How did that work for you, Ilie?] Still, your point is well-taken. Frankly, I didn't think about it all that much.

I expect most of us in our 70s (I'm 75) are so physically unappealing that we wouldn't give ourselves a chance or even make a serious try.* Looking at Nastase's photo, he fits that description. What makes him think any young woman would be interested? He's a geezer. And certainly wouldn't be interested if she is married. He has neither the personality nor the physical appearance to put him in that game.

I could be cruder, but I'll refrain. :D

* OTOH, we might try the grandfatherly flirting thing, but if sex is the object, that's known to be an unsuccessful route, unless she is a grandmother (and our wife). ;)

There's also that pesky detail that Nastase is a 70 year old guy on his fourth marriage. Youthful mistake...?
