I'll start!
I'm happy I'm a Duke fan because the Duke basketball program does a fantastic job representing the University as whole. The sense of pride and community that being a Duke basketball fan engenders helps to differentiate Duke from the dozens of other similarly prestigious academic institutions (a point I often make to high school applicants who I interview), and the basketball program represents the values of the University as a whole extremely well.
UNC, meanwhile, seems to view athletics as a completely separate entity from their academic institution, and has mortgaged their standing as a prestigious academic institution for success on the basketball court. That's something I can't imagine Duke EVER doing.
That's mine. Who's next?
