I'm betting that South Carolina goes like 1-17 from three, shoots about 35% overall and finds themselves in a tightly called game in their next game out. Anyone want to bet against me?

Never bet against the Duke curse.

Never bet against the Duke curse.

Until our recent first round upsets, beating Duke in the NCAA tourney over the last 20 or so years usually indicated that a team was going to have a successful tournament run. The curse usually rears it head in various ways over subsequent seasons.

1998: kentucky: national champions
1999: uconn: national champions
2000: florida: title game
2001: title 3
2002: Indiana : title game
2003: Kansas: title game
2004: uconn: national champions
2005:Michigan state: final four
2006:lsu: final four
2007: vcu: 2nd round
2008:wvu: sweet 16
2009: villanova: final 4 (should've beaten unc, phantom travel call)
2010: title 4
2011: arizona: elite 8
2012: lehigh: 2nd round
2013: Louisville: national champions
2014:mercer: 2nd round
2015: title 5
2016: oregon: elite 8
2017: south Carolina:?

i mean, if we would have backed off the line and let them shoot threes all game, we probably would have won.

That's a little bit misleading. Starting with 2007, the team that beat us lost their next game in 6 of the 8 years we lost in the tournament.

Now, no arguments that the 1998-2004 run was obscene: literally all of our losses were to teams that reached the title game and/or won it all.

I would not take that bet. A very likely outcome, I think.

South Carolina's entire first weekend was full of things that were way out of the norm for them, especially with regards to their offense, and it wasnt just the Duke game. They pretty much went nuts in the second half of both games last weekend. When you consider that along with the usual drop off that comes after playing Duke, it is easy to see how they could lay an egg tonight.

Adding in that they are playing in New York instead of their own backyard and I think its even more likely that their performance looks more like their regular season than last weekend.

Lastly, I think the crew that officiates their game tonight will make freedom of movement an emphasis....at least they should, which could further make like difficult for SC.

I'm still bewildered that we lost and aren't playing tonight.

I'm sure the folks at Madison Square Garden wish Duke were playing tonight, too.

South Carolina vs Baylor? Thank you, but nope. Sounds like an NIT Elite Eight matchup.

Add Wisconsin and Florida on the other side and that's a decent preseason tournament, but agreed, not the most exciting regional you could get.

Baylor does turn the ball over a ton. From at least that standpoint, SC matches up well. If they hold up in other aspects of the game and force 20 turnovers, they could win for sure.
