3 comebacks against 3 top 25 teams in 3 nights. Best three days in Duke basketball history?

Loved Matt hitting the 3, finding Tatum for the inbound/dunk, and creating the turnover on the other end.

Best part is seeing how HAPPY our boys look! Big, big ups to K for a masterful coaching job.

Let's go Duke!

Man. That game was weird. Duke seemed like they were in total control in the first half, but only managed to find itself up 4 at the half after a rotten end to the half and some lucky bounces on missed ND shots. Duke also couldn't seem to hang on to the ball, whether it was fumbling a pass catch or just losing the ball.

Then, ND came out like gangbusters, outhustling Duke and hitting the boards hard to build a decent lead. Then GA had kind of a mental breakdown with 2 bad turnovers in a row and it seemed like ND was in control. But Tatum put Duke on his back, Kennard hit some tough shots, Amile played great D and Duke caught a break when Colson turned an ankle. While Colson returned, he wasn't the same after that, despite the 3 he hit. Was great to see Matt hit that HUGE 3 to put Duke ahead 4.

And how about the karma of ND not seeming to get any fouls called during the 2nd half coming back to bite them at the end when they needed to foul to conserve time? :-D

Great run in the tournament, and now you can make a case not just for a 2 seed for Duke, but maybe even a 1 seed... (!)

Let's hope this is the start of something great. It did build some great experience for the freshmen to play in a title atmosphere, as well as playing lots of games in a short amount of time.

One cool thing is that winning the tournament means that Duke is guaranteed to lose less than 10 games this season.

Our Seniors

Jefferson was a beast tonight. His coverage against Colson was so key for us on the defensive end and offensively he was very aggressive and finishing so many great plays for us.
Jones; Matt freaking Jones. that is all.

Jayson Tatum is... WOW. Great heart from the team this week. Amile had a great game too.

4 games in 4 games is tough... you could tell the guys were tired out there.

Tatum is the best baller in New York, and that includes the Knicks. He is the most talented player every time he steps on the floor for the rest of the year.

Thank you Matt Jones!!!

I just scared the bejesus out of my cats. I am a little stunned that we won the ACC in that fashion. I thought best case scenario was we recover our health in time for an NCAA run. I did not see this coming. Somehow the team got better by playing four games in four days.

I'll admit - watching the Clemson game, I was bummed. I had wanted to see the team come out with energy and a sense of urgency and they just looked kind of flat to me. And after Grayson got the T and looked out of sorts, I just thought we were done and would likely end up with an early exit from the Big Dance next week. Shows what I know! I won't ever count this bunch out again, no matter the score. Sooooooo proud of our team tonight

What an amazing team, amazing win tonight and an amazing 4 games. In every game but Clemson they were probably considered done by a lot of people, but they just refused to quit or go away. 99% of the teams in the world would have folded tonight after all the discombobulation in the second half tonight that led to them falling behind 8 points. Not this team. They showed incredible resolve, and to use a phrase from my ol ball coach, "intestinal fortitude". Down 13 in the second half against UL, they believed they would win. Down 13 last night in the second half to the other team in our area, they believed they would win. Down 8 in the second half tonight they again believed they would win. Toughness. Togetherness. 2017 ACC Champions. Went thru the gauntlet to get there taking all big dogs down on a day less rest. A Championship for the ages and they are not done.

Crystal Ball. I watched the game with my wife, my daughter and my daughter's friend. I turned to them at halftime and said the following: "Matt Jones is going to hit a game clinching or game winning 3 to win this for Duke". It was just a feeling that came to me out of nowhere really but it was just in my gut. When he hit said 3, I about lost my mind.

Lots of hollering, celebrating and smiles in the Newton household tonight! Hope all you folks are as happy as we are!

And Oly, that snow was an omen my friend. I smiled when you put up that post the other day so thanks for that. As an old timer I new the history.:)

yeah he was but that was for FT purposes, IIRC it was jefferson, with the 4 guards/wings out there for FTs if ND was to foul.

but i agree with others posting, Allen overall I think had a pretty sloppy game; had had a few nice plays and passes; but was pretty sloppy as shown by his 6 TO. The right decision was made for Jackson to play. But obviously we need him and will have him play once the NCAAT begins.

I don't think Teddy has ever blown his whistle less. While the refs certainly missed some calls, it was nice to have a big game where the refs didn't seem like a major story line. Definitely not a sentiment I expect to associated with TV Teddy, so good on him.

Yep. Most players in the horrible slump he's been in, game on the line, less than 60 secs left, would have rushed the shot or forced the shot just to get it over with. Not Jones - he was cool as a cucumber. Nothing but net.

Let's memorialize two specific plays in the last minute, to help with searches by readers in the future.

With 0:51 left, Matt Jones makes a three-pointer to extend Duke's lead to four points, 71-67. We miss that shot, and we can easily lose the game.

With 0:25 left, Matt passes from halfcourt to Jayson Tatum, who dribbles once and then dunks as Vasturia fouls. Jayson makes the free throw to extend the lead to 74-69.

All in! ACC championship number 20!

Over and out.

Who noticed that Matt stepped over the end line right before he threw that touchdown pass to Jayson? We got real lucky the refs didn't call a turnover there.

the play where he threw the ball back in bounds and it tipped off the ND player, going to Duke? He was totally out of bounds when he threw the ball back in.

I think all the adversity of the season has created an emotional bond with this team like I rarely remember.

Just ridiculous - it's like when we go down in the second half - we have the other team right where we want them.

What a delight. Everyone in the rotation made huge contributions during the last 4 games. Total team effort to take the title. And Matt had a legendary last 60 seconds with the huge 3 and an absolutely perfect fade route to Tatum.

Wait, don't you mean Daniel Jones on the fade route to Tatum? ;)

I was watching the game with my daughter and her boyfriend(State fan & Duke fan). I told them I have a feeling Matt Jones is going to hit a big 3 pointer late in the game. When Matt hit it, I turned to them and said, "I told you". Did you notice he shot the ball a little differently? He let go of the ball with his left hand and used his right hand to shoot the ball. I think it was because the defender had closed quickly and he shot it that way to keep it from being blocked. Matt is deserving praise for his hard work. GoDuke!

I'm pretty sure Matt told Jayson that he wanted him to go long on that out of bounds play. I'm going to go back and look at the replay tomorrow and see. Matt for sure told him something. I can't read lips so it's just a guess. GoDuke!

It was nice to think when they got down 8, "well, at least they've seen this before."

That may be the biggest takeaway from this tournament. How pumped do you think the staff is that we came back from a big deficit three nights in a row. That shows so much maturity and poise which are obviously great traits to carry into the NCAAs.

What if I told you before the game that these would be our stats:

make only 5-15 from behind the arc
make only 8 of 12 free throws
commit twice as many turnovers as our opponents
are out-rebounded on the offensive boards 16 to 5

How the hell we win that game? Incredible job.

I heard the same post game summary. It was evident that Grayson and Harry were gassed in the 2nd half. I think Luke was tired as well because he lost his man several times in the 2nd half. Maybe, yes (though I agree with the earlier poster that play was Grayson), but I meant the play sagegrouse mentions above. Matt stepped forward when he threw and his foot landed over the end line. You're not allowed to step on the court when throwing an inbound pass. That should have been a turnover.

Congrats to the 2017 ACC Tournament Champs, an amazing thing to say and the latest twist in the wild ride that is this season.

I am in on the "this group is special" theme because we won without even playing an entire good half in 4 games, but we just keep scoring and doing just enough on the other end.

Matt Jones - amazing moment when he hit that 3

Tatum unstoppable.

Luke and Amile in Warrior mode.

Frank equal to the moment with huge shots.

Grayson was fine until he started to lose control.

Harry was reliable and a force for a while.

We still have lots of upside, this team needs reps, we can maybe squeeze in 6 more games and then, maybe, we can be the team we all expected...that is meant to be funny...I think...my belief grows with each win.

Brey only mentioned it because he was explicitly asked about it. He said he thought his foot touched the line, but then proceeded to say the refs were "pros" in this game and that contributed it to being a great game. Honestly, Brey was surprisingly upbeat and happy in the presser it seemed to me and gave Duke major compliments throughout. He also didn't bash his team at all -- they just didn't make enough shots he said. It was a stark contrast from Huck's post game presser, that's for sure.

And by hustle I meant sink a dagger three with the game on the line.

Matt freakin' Jones! That was awesome. A wonderful sequence at the end.

Duke took their lumps this year but I think learning how to win a tough game like that (well, four in a row actually) they needed to go through that. Amazing. Just amazing. Not just for winning four in four days but to win them against the caliber of competition they faced? Holy Cow!

No, no, no. He didn't step over the SIDELINE. If you look closely, there are two "lines" in that area of the court. Matt is standing in a blue shaded area, which is adjacent to the tan, court-colored area, and the sideline is at least foot from that. He didn't step over the SIDELINE. He may have stepped over that blue shaded area, but that's irrelevant.

Just an increadable run.

Its totally cherry picking numbers but Bilas said something that got me thinking about the ACC tournament.
Duke has played five of its last six games against ranked opponents and went 5-1 over that stretch and the one loss was quickly avenged. The NCAA will be a let down from that level of competition :)

Wonder if this team will ever put together a complete game? Wonder if it will ever matter? When clicking, they can turn a five minute stretch that is devastating to even the best teams in the country. Plus they can execute so well late because you can't stop all the offense. Duke closed out ND with GA on the bench... think about that in the context of the last three games and how essential he has been.

Four very different styles of teams. Didn't matter. Four teams with very different strengths. Didn't matter.
So much fun. Plus all four teams were familiar with Duke and know well enough how to play them. ND said they were looking forward to it. In NCAA, opponents won't have that familiarity.

All of the endline is OOB. As I see this one, his toe touched the line, but didn't touch the court - no violation. We're so used to looking for a toe on a line, we sometimes forget which edge of the line matters.

Where are the tshirts??!!!

In another thread (http://forums.dukebasketballreport.com/forums/showthread.php?34725-And-the-Jayhawks-again&p=958533#post958533), someone said that every game in the ACC this year was like the movie Cannibal Holocaust. I want t shirts that say "Duke Basketball, 2017 Cannibal Holocaust Survivors." This team is the champion of the best conference in probably its strongest year ever.

This team does not always play the best basketball, but they never, ever quit. This has got to be the most mentally tough Duke team ever.

I was glad when I saw Matt Jones line up his three. Jones is actually a good three point shooter. His percentage on the year is 32.8%, which is almost identical to Jayson Tatum at 33.6% on slightly fewer attempts. What is confounding is that Jones seems to be the streakiest shooter ever. Over the course of the season, he seems to miss 10 in a row and then make 10 in a row. When his is not streaky is when he takes clutch threes, ones that the team really needs and that are game changers. Those always seem to go in.

But, lest I pass out, the "fade" to JT was no where close to OOB. And, the foul by Vasturia was sooper-stoopid.

I thought the oob in question by Brey was on the baseline by their basket, not the sideline pass for Tatum's dunk.

Yes, that's the one I meant. Sorry if I conflated two different plays.

Before I read all of the other posts, I wanted to say congratulations to this Duke team, which gutted out an incredibly difficult stretch of 4 games in 4 days against the best in the ACC and came away with the championship. It took come from behin wins against Louisville, UNC and Notre Dame to do it.

I give Notre Dame a lot of credit and in particular Coulsen. He is a fantastic player and I will be glad not to see us have to face him again unless in some stretch of the imagination we both wind up in the final 4.

This entire tournament both Jayson and Luke have played great ball and even with the slow pace of play and good defense played against us last night both contributed in the high teens again last night. No one has found a way to stop either of these guys and they must have been exhausted with the huge minutes played> Get some rest guys and get ready.

Amile also had an excellent game last night and he also must have been dragging. Lots of good defensive plays and he also helped out with scoring. Couldn't have happened to a better guy.

There is a separate thread to thank Matt for his play. Having a mature player to steady us down the last few minutes was crucial to the win and that 3 was a dagger we really desperately needed.

Frank did a nice job of handling the ball and was called upon later in the game for a long stretch and came through. He has toughness and explosiveness and is difficult for other teams to defend. He had 3 fouls fairly early on and had to play quite a few minutes while avoiding picking up his 4th. Good lesson for him going forward to avoid the gratuitous fouls.

Grayson had a very good game going and all of a sudden couldn't control the ball and had a number of TOs. Coach K sat him for a while as perhaps his emotions needed calming. He did get back at the end to provide FT capability. Grayson has returned to much better form and just in time for the tourney.

Harry played hard but had a very tough series where everything went wrong for him. Both defensive and offensive mistakes and he obviously knew he had made them. Good of coach K to take him out then and let him think about him and come back stronger for the tournament.

Great series of games by a talented team and great growth by some of the younger players. Franks and Harry have made enormous strides and Jayson is just fantastic.

Rewatched the 2nd half and particularly the winning moments with under a minute to go. My favorite moment was the bench reaction after Matt made that shot. Matt's shot came at about the same spot on the court as Scheyer's (who was also in a slump) dagger against Ga. Tech in 2010 ACC Final and we all know how that year ended for Duke.

Yep. Matt's shot was deja vu. I was at the the 2010 tourney and had about the same viewing angle on both shots. It was beautiful in stereo. :)

I am so proud of this team and I am so glad we have a coach who teaches that the grapes are always sweet and you should have the courage to give your all in the pursuit. Good basketball and life lesson.

Several thoughts. This tourney helped Tatum, Allen and Giles. The game is slowing down for Tatum. He is driving better and using his length. Kid learned a lot about taking over the game in the past 4 days. Grayson had fun again. He embraced his instant offense role and started to show his many skills. If he can continue to shoot 3's with confidence- Duke becomes that much more dangerous. Finally we saw glimpses of Giles. He is still far away but for a couple of days he played with enthusiasm and abandon. He was the difference maker in a two minute stretch that broke a tight game open. A small but significant step for him. I cannot believe Duke won with only 7 players - playing 4 games when we did not know if Grayson was even 80%. A great accomplishment for this team.

I laughed at the contact lens issue. I'm 59 and I pop two in every morning with no mirror. Just the glow from the morning news on the tv. Takes about 10 seconds total. Glad he could get a nice breather. Guess I'm just not special enough to have someone hold a mirror for me.

I wore contacts for years and and never understood the need for a mirror. It would actually mess me up trying to guide my finger to my eye in the mirror. Looked like the contact got something on it that was irritating his eye. Kept thinking don't you guys have saline to rinse that thing off and start over?

Hard to see clearly, but it looks like Matt's foot lands in bounds well after the throw in.

What isn't hard to see is the Notre Dame player slapping the backboard.

Both excellent no-calls.

Maybe, yes (though I agree with the earlier poster that play was Grayson), but I meant the play sagegrouse mentions above. Matt stepped forward when he threw and his foot landed over the end line. You're not allowed to step on the court when throwing an inbound pass. That should have been a turnover.

Not that I'm complaining. Just wondering who else noticed.

My wife and I both saw it. Thought it was Amile inbounding, but regardless yes: whoever it was stepped onto the court before releasing the ball, that should have been called a turnover. Lucky! Or the bball Gods rewarding us for the many calls that went NDs way.

We are playing with confidence. I stated three weeks ago that we will get even better, and our best basketball is yet to be played. We are beyond a dangerous team right now. Call me crazy, but our defense is getting better too. Transition defense wasn't as bad. We had a mess up a time or two last night, but we played one of the most fundamentally sound teams out there. Those guys are efficient, and the wear you down. Not to mention, this was our fourth straight game.

Harry Giles is getting better. He let a pass slip and bobbled one on a dunk. Otherwise, a pretty good effort overall. He grabbed a couple of monster rebounds and had a couple blocks. He's going to give us the minutes we need. These kids are fighters. There is no quit in them. They have transitioned into a TEAM.

If I have one criticism of young Mr. Giles, it is of his hands when handling passes. He fumbled 2 easy assists last night and compounded one by committing a dumb foul. He also fumbled several during the regular season too. He does not seem to have hand issues when inhaling rebounds from spots that no one else on the court can get to as quickly.

I call this "Plumleeing." All 3 Plumlees seemed prone to this their freshman seasons - Marshall carried it a bit longer. It seems to be a symptom of just being too damn eager to make the play, and then very frustrated and trying to atone for it with a steal or a block.

Giles is starting to show us some stuff. Hope he has six more opportunities.

Wrote on this board that K should sit GA for the balance of the ACCT(after the T against Clemson) so the kid could get his head together. Like a Surpeme Court nominee I am sure there are other writings/opinions of mine on DBR that could be used as evidence that I am unfit to hold the job of DBR poster 😎😎.

After watching the game again this morning, and catching up on the threads, I am surprised that there is no recognition in the post-game forum of what could reasonably be considered the play of the game. Notre Dame up 8, with the ball after the second of back-to-back Duke turnovers, and with a ton of momentum. Vasturia drives down the right side, curling along the baseline. Matt Jones steps in and just flat takes the ball away from him. This leads to two straight baskets by Jefferson and suddenly it's a game again; Duke goes on a 11-2 run and never trails again.

All the talk seems to be around Jones' play the last minute of the game. But I'm big on recognizing momentum swings and that one defensive play earlier was at least equally as big as anything that happened in the last minute.

Clearly not a turnover. If you watch in slow motion, Matt's foot MAY touch the line on one of his steps, but clearly does not go onto the court. The line is out of bounds, not in bounds. When he passes to Tatum, the ball is over the ACC logo and almost at the free throw line before his foot touches inbounds. The passer is not governed by the vertical plane of the out of bounds line. The defender is. I'm fine with acknowledging when Duke gets a break from officials making errors. This was not one of those times!

What was the price range on tickets? Did you attend any other games?

I bought the ticket yesterday morning on StubHub and paid a total of $200 (which included an awful $30 service fee) for Section 104. Attached is the view from my seats.

I went to the Florida game at MSG earlier in the year and also to the Syracuse game (my nephew is a student). This result was a little better than that last game!

Congrats to Duke. I don't think I've ever seen a more amazing performance from a conditioning standpoint. To wit, Tatum/Kennard have averaged about 38/39 mpg over the last 10 games Duke has played, including during 4 games in 4 days at the tournament. Neither of those guys looked especially fatigued down the stretch to me. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like that, and for it to come from a true freshman and a sophomore makes it even more ridiculous.

As of now, you got to be counted among the 5-6 favorites headed to the NCAAs, and if Giles picks up his level of play just slightly and you keep away from any more nagging injuries to anybody else, I think you win the whole damn thing.

Congrats to your guys for sticking together throughout a mentally and physically (w/r/t injuries) challenging season. Seems like their belief and patience are really starting to pay off.

I also think the big, big hands can sometimes have problems when they are thinking too far ahead. They must do some interesting drills. Bigs take a while to get it all together, as we have discussed many times here before. Gotta "think fast" as sometimes we did toss, balls, socks rolls, cans of beer (just kidding) at home when the kids were little.
Yeah, growing up at my house was quite an adventure. It's challenging to have a lunatic for a mother. Lucky the authorities were never alerted!

I was just about to post about this exact moment. This gave ND a totally free TO. I understand you want to ensure player safety but, Mr. Colson, went down like a pro soccer player- shot by sniper from the tenth row, only to suddenly be fine after the free TO.

Then, they get another extended TO to re-insert his contact lens. True we get the same TO but, we had the MO. Rule should require you sub out.

Colson was genuinely hurt; he turned his ankle pretty badly. I was shocked when he came back in. But play should not have stopped until ND had the ball.

Great win and a great tournament. Solid contributions from everyone. I thought K was masterful, utilizing his timeouts, switching O and D, substituting. Luke is Luke. Jayson is a force. Amile is moving so much better. Frank is getting better and better. Harry looks better (aside from that few minute stretch in the second half). Grayson still doesn't have his usual hops but is embracing the sixth man role. He got a bit wild there in the second half but I thought he had a good tournament. Raise your hand if you knew Matt's late three was going to go in? I certainly did. Raise your hand if Matt takes the same shot earlier in the game you were positive it wouldn't go in? The dude makes important plays right when the team needs it most.

The only thing I found curious was how did Justin Jackson not get tournament MVP? He was robbed.

(1) Although it gives me the queasy-queasies to say it, this three-game set really reminds a lot of what Tubby's '98 Comeback Cats did to win their natty. This Duke team is more talented than that one was, but they ain't complaining about the outcome (and neither would I).

The drive that Trippin' Williams referenced to close the half shows the problem other teams have, as does Jayson's drive and kick. On Grayson's drive, ND shifted to cover a kick-out pass to the right, and Grayson went right to the rack. Against Jayson, they collapsed and Matt gets his storybook hero moment. Plays like that freeze defenses because there is no right answer.

I wanted to add...I think the first 15 minutes of the game last night was the best basketball we've played all season. We weren't hitting 3's but everything seemed to be clicking. I think fatigue really started to set in at the end of the half. That may be why K scrapped calling sets. Allowing the guys to react and just make plays may have been less draining than having to organize and carry out an offensive set with the game pressure increasing.

But back to those first 15 minutes. I hope that is a major sign that this team is coming around to the expectations of how it would play. Everyone seemed so dialed in, even on D. I also really liked seeing the lineup of Tatum, Jefferson, & Giles with Allen and Kennard at the guard spots. If Harry can keep coming around on D that can be a truly imposing lineup.

I think it's more an issue of the speed of the game, as opposed to bad hands.

This post is greatly appreciated. Many thanks for your fine, honest contributions here this year.

I watched and didn't understand how Grayson could fall apart like that. Then came word from K that he was gassed. It didn't occur to me that he hasn't really practiced in a month, so his conditioning isn't what it normally is or up to the same level as his teammates. He's likely to get fitter and healthier the longer Duke plays.

Haven't watched the replay of the game on TV yet so I don't know if they showed it, but at the game I noticed during that stretch when Grayson "fell apart" in the 2nd half, he was subbed out and was heading right to a seat on the bench when Coach K reached for his hand. Grayson went to give K a "low 5" when K grabbed his hand, pulled him close and said something to him. Probably along the lines of "it's ok, stay positive, we need you, take a breath and I'll get you back in soon."

In all seriousness, I think Marshall Plumlee has a future in the sports announcing biz.

He's got a good vocal timbre (Bill Walton-like, but without the brain damage) and a great sense of humor. He'd be a great color commentator.

I am going to make an analogy here that I hope makes sense to most people not living rent-free in my head. Many/Most of the posters on this forum are what I will refer to as native-born citizens of Duke Nation (i.e. graduates of Duke). In my case, I am a naturalized citizen of Duke Nation (i.e. I have no academic affiliation with Duke University whatsoever). I am very thankful to be welcome here as a devoted fan of this blue blood men's basketball program since the 1988-1989 season despite having not attended the university we all love.

I also want to say that I think that this is my favorite team in the nearly thirty seasons I have been a fan. I usually grow weary of hearing athletic teams in whichever sport talk about "adversity" because most of the time the teams' problems fall far short of my strict definition of the term. However, this season Duke has faced some true difficulties which would have derailed the seasons of the vast majority of programs in the country. Giles, Bolden, and Tatum each missed several games because of injury to start the season. The GOAT missed about a month of the season recovering from back surgery. Grayson Allen has faced an enormous amount of scrutiny (which he has brought on himself) with his propensity to trip opponents. Moreover, he has had multiple injuries to deal with. Another example of adversity this program has faced this year is the injury to Amile Jefferson. Despite the numerous difficulties this team has faced this season, it has a real chance to hang a sixth national championship banner. Because of everything I hope I have cogently written here (it is a 2:43 a.m. Monday here in China), this team is my favorite of all time even if they ultimately fall short of No. 6.

Ok...we each have our opinion...but in the moment may not be the deep feelings...not unhappy with the win, but has to have thought about it. Last night of course the euphoria.

I love the kid...tough year for him....until now...

Good point. I also took it as yet another indicator that Grayson is getting healthier. When his ankle was really bothering him, he stopped even trying to score on drives. He either forced a kick out or tried to draw a foul. There was hesitation for him on that play. He went hard to the rack and scored. He had another blow-by for a lefty layup in the second half too. He might have hit the wall, eventually, but those two plays give me confidence that he really might be close to 100% in the tourney, especially if we get through the first weekend and he has another week of recovery.

First, let me say that there shhould be no distinction here. There are PLENTY of folks with no academic ties to Duke that hold as deep or deeper Duke roots than I do as an alumnus. I grew up in Northwest Florida an FSU fan. I didn't acquire my Duke blue stripes until I was a teenager. There are many who grew up in NC and chose the right shade of blue as a child. I have no more right to Duke citizenship than they do. If anything, I am the "naturalized citizen" and they are the true bloods.

The fact is Duke is a small private school. We would be nothing without the support of all Duke fans, alumni or not. Don't think of yourself as in any way a second-class citizen. We are all true bloods here, regardless of our heritage.

oof. that OREB number and FGA comparison is not something that you want to see! if there was something to work on coming out of the tournament, it's that. but i suppose I prefer a miss and OREB to giving up an easy layup....so if that's the tradeoff we have to make to stop the matador, so be it.

Terrific observation. Exactly the sort of play Matt makes regularly that's underappreciated. So many small things contributed to winning this tournament, and I treasure every one.

It was interesting that Frank had gone to the scorer's table to replace Grayson well before he committed his last two turnovers of the game, and the action just didn't stop to permit the substitution. I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't think our Blue Devils had it in them to win four in a row, but am so glad to be wrong(again)! Let's go, Duke!

Honestly, I don't think it is necessarily a bad thing to be wrong sometimes - as long as we are not afraid to admit it; and can learn from it. I'll admit that, in spite of my best efforts, from time to time, the doom and gloom leak through. And then I hear something, read something or experience something (like this tournament) and realize that I had very LITTLE understanding of the actual picture. As difficult as it is for me (a control freak), I have slowly come to understand that these coaches know these players... they know what they are doing... and I would be a much less stressed fan... and would enjoy the game more... if I would learn to trust them.
There are a lot of comments here -including mine- offering analyses of this tournament. They are interesting and fun... but, I think you are making a huge mistake if you read only these comments and not take the time, to listen to the comments, of those who actually know something. Watch the presser that jk linked on post #177 - and LISTEN carefully to Coach K. Those few moments leave no doubt as to the incredible depth of this man...at so many levels.
