Amile Jefferson is five games away from tying the Duke record for games played.

By virtue of the nine games Amile played in his red-shirt season, he has an opportunity to set the record for total games played. To date, he has played in 143 games. The current leaders for games played at Duke are:

Christian Laettner
148

Kyle Singler
148

Greg Koubek
147

Shane Battier
146

Chris Duhon
144

Jon Scheyer
144

Danny Ferry
143

Nolan Smith
143

Quinn Cook

Amile Jefferson
143

Andre Dawkins
142

Brian Davis
141

Thomas Hill
141

Mason Plumlee
141

Bobby Hurley

Lance Thomas

Duke has at least three more games: @UNC, and at least one game in the ACC and NCAA tournaments. Assuming Amile plays in every game he'd tie Battier for fourth. If Duke manages to win two postseason games, he'll tie Laettner and Singler. And if Duke can win three postseason games, then he'll have the school record for games played.

(I couldn't find a single list, so I compiled the above from Sports-Reference and GoDuke.StatsGeek, so apologies if I left anyone out of the above table)

Someone give this person a spork! Top-notch job, Sir/Miss.

It's weird seeing Singler with more wins than Battier. For some reason, I think of Singler's time at Duke taking place amidst a couple years where sports radio jocks were giddily writing Duke's epitaph as a dominant program (Jim Rome amongst others). I think maybe that was the year before Singler, Taylor King and Nolan showed up, though.

EDIT: It was the year before Singler.

Here's hoping Amile blows by that record.

It's games played, not wins.

Very impressive list. Although it must just be while on the team and available; Koubek did not play in that many games IIRC.

Wins and games will of course be highly correlated. But, yes, I would guess that Battier has more wins than Singler.

Koubek did indeed play 147 games.

These stats are of course biased towards the 1990-2005 eras. Teams played more games per year in this time than prior, there was no reshman ineligible rule, early entry wasn't as much a thing, etc. But still, it is a pretty cool stat for Jefferson.

I think that's nearly a given. No problem with that!!! Let's crush it!!!

I can't find the numbers now, but Battier and Kentucky guard Wayne Turner are tied for the most victories played in ...

... (and I know this is hard to believe) Kyle Singler singlehandedly hold the record for the most wins as a starter

If he doesn't break the record, I think it'd safe to say that we'll all be disappointed.

Amile's also got a chance to crack into Duke's Top 10 List in rebounds. He needs 62 to tie Ronnie Mayer for 10th at 954 and has been averaging 8.6 rpg this season so at the current pace he'd do it in his 8th game if they can have a successful postseason run.

...that is to say when they have their historic postseason run ;)

Cool stat! Though it kind of feels like there should be an asterisk since he had the extra partial season. Playing the most games *should* be an indicator that you had the most postseason wins, since that is the only way to "add" extra games. Also I guess it means that you stayed healthy and were good enough to not be benched for any games.

Very similar story in career blocks: he's 12th and 9 behind Josh McRoberts for 10th...

Why is it hard to believe? That guy was (is) awesome!

Kyle was a 4 year starter during a very successful stretch for Duke. With early entry, 4 year starters are a rarity. Given that Duke has lived, over the last 3 decades, in rarified air in terms of wins/season as a team, a 4 year starter at Duke is likely to be at, or near, the top of any college basketball list in terms of wins as a starter. Kyle is certainly a worthy record-holder.

After all, he gets buckets...and is iron.

And Amile is a worthy man to lead the list of games played as a Blue Devil. He's spent his time at Duke gutting it out and doing whatever Coach K asked of him. And he's the kind of young man we all love to see in a Duke uniform.

Just as an aside, Battier and Turner's record is in jeopardy this year from Villanova's Josh Hart and Kris Jenkins. As of today they are both at 124 (neither has missed a game in 4 years) and the record is 131. Should they win this weekend plus win the BE tourney, they would need an elite 8 appearance to tie the record and a Final Four appearance to break it.

When I began tracking this three weeks ago, I realized that Duke would need two postseason wins for Amile to get the record. I was optimistic, but coming off a string of losses I was honestly not sure that it would happen. We got five postseason wins, and for that I'm grateful.

But mostly I'm grateful for Amile Jefferson, who epitomized the values of Duke basketball. It was a pleasure to watch him play-and lead-this team, and he's worthy of topping this list.

So I'm not the history buff that most of you all are but it appears the only person on this list that didn't win a national championship is Danny Ferry, and as good and accomplished as he was it's ok that he didn't. Case in point, this list represents not only longevity but success. If you make this list at Duke, you are guaranteed to have won a lot.
