Switching back and forth between Wake bball and Denver lax ... Five minutes into second quarter, now, and it's Denver 3-1. Duke D actually looks decent, but Denver is dominating possession because Duke O appears to be overmatched by Denver D. Denver goalkeeper has made several saves, and Duke's one goal was on a questionable put-back of a rebound off the goalie. As I type this, Gut got a clear shot and a goal, now 3-2 Denver half-way through 2nd quarter. Offense has looked better since I've started typing this, so we might be in for a good game here. And wow, guess I'm a slow typer ... now 3-3, goal by Prendergast. Duke appears to be gaining confidence this quarter.

OK, I'll keep 'er going ... at least through the first half (unfortunately, I have to leave at halftime). Now 4-3 Duke! First quarter possession time dominated by Denver, but 2nd quarter it has completely flipped. Wish I had been able to attend in person, but couldn't swing it ... but there are some Dukies in the crowd.

Bad turnover with 1:30 to go in quarter leads to Denver score, now 4-4.

Denver gets final face-off and scores with 5 seconds remaining ... halftime score, 5-4 Denver. The last two minutes not-withstanding, Duke gave at least as good as it got in the second quarter, after a slow start to the game on offense. And with that ... gotta go ... for those who have Altitude channel, turn it on, looks like it has a chance to become a barn-burner (I hope I don't jinx it by saying that).

Duke's defense is holding up well so far, but losing Cannizaro at the end of the quarter is inexcusable ... like losing track of Kennard with the shot clock winding down.

Kyle is doing well against Baptiste.

This would be a good time for Prendergast to step up. He can run by any of Denver's shorties. He got his hands free with easeor his second quarter goal.

Jackson gives Denver the lead. And Baptiste scores right from the faceoff. 10-8 Denver with 7:20 to go.

Duke gets one back, but Baptiste gets away with an obvious slash on Rowe and Denver has possession with 1:30 to go.

Gaah. Van Raaphorst called for unnecessary roughness as the shot clock runs out. Nickel dimer.

Cannizaro gets away from Welch with Duke pressing out and waltzes to the front to score.

Empty-netter for Cannizaro. And Walker scores off the faceoff.

14-9 is the final, but Duke played much better than the score suggests. Ready's huge save on Bruckner with the score 8-8 made all the difference. Next play.

Lessee.... Duke played Denver "at altitude," and Denver pulled away in the fourth quarter. Hmmm....

Yep, that isn't hard to predict, is it? Sorry to come back to that news, but it's not surprising ... and I am encouraged that we gave the #1 team a game on their home field for 3+ quarters.

Women lead Stanford, 4-3 at the half. Stanfod's zone is giving Duke fits.

After Stanford made it 8-8 with ten minutes to go, Duke's defense slammed the door for a 12-8 win.

Big days for Maddie Crutchfield (five goals), Olivia Jenner (16 for 22 on draws) and Jamie Lockwood (nine saves).

Duke women are 4-0 headed into next week's ACC opener against ND.
