Does this mean I won't get to vote for Shane as President of the United States in four years? write in does not count. GoDuke!

I haven't seen a definitive comment on this topic, but I believe this makes Shane the first former player to be slotted into an analytics role which is an amazing accomplishment considering most of those guys are serious math wonks and not former pro athletes. I did see one piece from Ira Winderman in Miami where he postulates this sets Shane up for a a much greater role in the post Pat Riley Heat. Shane is one impressive dude, but we knew that already.

I wish him the very best and will bring out my old "Who's Your Daddy" t-shirt bought via this site back in 2001 this weekend to honor his new gig

My all time favorite Duke player.

Perhaps being both a player that was very interested in the analytics reports, and now being the head of the analytics department in Miami, Shane can come up with some new, inventive ways to get the players to actually take a look at these reports. I recall an article several years back where Shane noted he was often one of the only players to read the pre-game analytics reports.

Are you thinking of the Michael Lewis story:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/15/magazine/15Battier-t.html

The article actually said that they didn't give the other players the reports.

Before the game, Battier was given his special package of information. “He’s the only player we give it to,” Morey says. “We can give him this fire hose of data and let him sift. Most players are like golfers. You don’t want them swinging while they’re thinking.”
