"LONG SHOT: Is it possible that the school that showcased J.J. Redick's shooting might have a player with greater range? Check out Nelson's scouting report on freshman forward Taylor King.

"He can really shoot the ball, very consistently, from 30 to 40 feet out," Nelson said.

Thirty to 40 feet?

"He can pretty much take a step or two beyond half-court and consistently knock it down," Nelson said."

I wonder how consistently he knocks it down from the bench -- no knock on Taylor, but surely, K doesn't want a player hoisting shots a few steps inside the half-court stripe.

That said, if he hits them, why not??!

So could Ross Perkins. Didn't seem to help his playing time. The game is a lot different with ACC-caliber defenders involved.

Remember Will Avery that dude had the most range I've seen at Duke he could nock them down farther then JJ of course not consistently.

Coach K has proven in the past that if a player can knock it down, he has no problem where he's shooting from. Guys like Chris Collins, Shane Battier, Jason Williams, Chris Duhon, and JJ were all known for their incredibly deep shooting range and routinely took shots that others coaches might have benched players for. I mean the two Chris's took at least one 30-footer every single game. I remember Duhon shooting one on a quick pull-up (for which he was notoriously known for) from about 40' against Georgetown in Cameron in '03. He missed it badly but Coach K still didn't pull him.

If you look back through the years, I don't think any other college basketball program in America has produced as many great 25 to 30 foot shooters than Duke. I mean, aside from maybe last year, I can't remember the last Blue Devil team that hasn't featured a player who isn't a capable marksman from well-beyond NBA range. Go back through the tapes and you'll see it. I think that just shows how much freedom coach gives his players on offense, and how much better kids play when not performing under constant "old school" coaching pressure.

Long live King Taylor:) I can't wait to see what he'll bring to the table this season. I think he's going to surprise a lot of people this season, especially Duke fans, as so many of them believe Taylor will be riding the pine all year long. I don't think they could be more wrong, though. Coach K loves three-point specialists and will not let such a lethal scoring weapon like King not see the floor. Taylor will be a defensive nightmare for Duke opponents this season, and Coach K knows it. That's why Taylor is in Durham, after all.

**Just to clarify, by "defensive nightmare," I don't mean Taylor will be scoring at a 60 points per game clip. Wanted to put that out there before someone called me out on it. I understand he's just a freshman and that it will take a little time for him to adjust to the quickness of the ACC, but, with his great height, length, and incredible, incredible shooting range, he will be a very tough matchup for our opposition's traditional big guy forwards. He will be a good one. Look for him to be a quick lightning bolt off the bench and to average somewhere along the lines of 6, 7 PPG. A couple threes out of him a contest would be good enough for me, especially with Jon, Gerald, Greg, DeMarcus, and (hopefully) Kyle leading the way in the scoring department.

I just hope he can rebound and defend the post for the next three or four years.

Sean Dockery was pretty good from 35 to 40 feet, especially with 1 second on the clock...

^^Lol, that he was.

I thought I was going to be evicted from the apartment I was living in at the time, after Sean sent that miracle through the net. My dad, a casual Duke fan, unlike my sickly obsessed self, called me basically three seconds after it happened, yelling "Did you see that, did you see that!" into the reciever. I was running from one end of my apartment to the other, screaming and throwing things around in pure ecstasy while a Bone Thugs-N-Harmony victory song blared through the airwaves. Just seconds later, there were about five or six disgruntled tenants almost violently knocking at my door. A truly memorable moment.

I remember thinking to myself, though, God, it's a good thing these people weren't my neighbors when Capel was still playing:)

She had some high-class friends over in the other room, and when (1) I told them to shut up, something important was going to happen and (2) my friends and I exploded into jubilant celebration when it did... it almost pushed her over the edge.

Worth it, and nothing flowers and a night out on the town can't fix ;)
