Don't worry, that's another one of those DNA things I suspect. Doing it for 18 years is a pretty sure sign that it's innate. Sad.

Would you say it's baked into their culture at this point?

We continued to clamp down on defense in the second half, shot % started to regress towards the mean, and we made some smarter decisions with the balll...viola.

I agree completely.

You can't fiddle around on defense; hopefully we can string together this effort with a few more like it.

I didn't get back in time to see the first half so all I witnessed was almost all of the second. Clearly, after a week of practice, the starters were chosen to be Grayson, Jayson, Luke Matt and Harry. They must have looked good in practice to get the starting nod. The way Jeff's quotes point, he was unsatisfied with the lack of effort by those starters in the first half and went with what he referred to as the players who had more energy and fight to start the second half. His gut instincts told him to do that and it worked very well.

Most of us would expect Amile, even at 90 % to be an asset and his leadership and communication were as helpful as having a coach on the floor. Matt is also a guy who plays hard and things began to click for him offensively and he gave the team and enormous lift. The surprise for me and probably the board, was how well Bolden played. He hedged well, recovered well and his size and strength around the basket gave Miami fits. If he can build on that performance we have another piece going forward. Frank is a great athlete and has energy and when on like last night can be difficult to stop. Unlike others though, I thought his defense still needs work. There should be some coachable moments in the films.

Luke took a little criticism on the board and not having seen the first half, there was probably good reasons. He never appears as animated in any game, but on defense he switches well, gets in for rebounds and works smartly out there. He made a few nice offensive plays in the second half, so I would be reluctant to criticize him. Grayson's ball handling in the second half seemed off. Did he have an injured finger? Several plays in a row when Miami brought the trap to him he waited too long and nearly had turnovers and then later tried to dribble into the defense and lost the ball. He needs to move to ball through the air when seeing the press closing in. I only saw a little of Harry last night. He seems fluid but played so few minutes that it was hard to draw any conclusions. He is still reaching in on defense so there is more for him to learn

Great win and smart thinking by Jeff. The advances we should have seen in November and December are starting to show up now.
