When you go from Super Bowl to basement in a matter of months, something is wrong and you work out new prospects.
According to this short article, one of those is Sean Renfree.

with no disrespect to Sean, why would they work out a QB?

Not sure but...

1. Cam Newton play style is concussion prone
2. Derek Anderson had a 12.1 QBR in the 17-14 loss to the TB Bucs

Perhaps they are looking at options for a new back up or back up to the back up.

I'd rather see Joe Webb tossing then bring in a new guy...and I have confidence in Anderson. But, I'm a Duke fan before a Panthers fan, so go Sean.

Derek will 34 before the start of the 2017 season - age territory that spells the end for many pro athletes. He also played 4 seasons for the Browns which may have aged him the equivalent of 8 seasons!

If Panthers can find something in Renfree they like as 3rd string back up, it could save them from using a draft pick for QB next season and have Webb move to #1 backup.
Certainly a low cost thing for the Panthers to do.

Glad he is getting some looks - it also keeps Renfree's resume out there for other teams to ponder.

He had a workout with the Patriots a couple weeks ago, but they did not sign him. They also worked out TJ Yates.
