This is the Duke fencing team. I know that few, if any, have scholarships but who knew the team was this big?

I've always felt that the fencing people should re-brand to "swashbuckling" for marketing purposes.

Then they would have one day a year that people all talk like them. Arrrrgggh.

This is true. Rebranding can be awesome. My older brother used to do "degaussing". Now he does "Magnetic Signature Warfare". If he wasn't already married, I'd submit that this change, alone, would greatly improve his odds at a bar.

I'd like a picture with each team member with a blade clenched in their teeth. 😈😁😎

Joking aside, those who fence sabre are very sensitive about the pirate connotation.

Doesn't stop me from teasing them about it.

Just thought you should fully appreciate the thrust of your jabs.

Dayum - Epees and Sabres are wicked weapons. No give; they hurt! I only fenced foils - they bend...

I hate to post photographs of me in college, but -- from a party on East Campus back in the day:

I have gained a bit of weight since then however.

That sounds all well and good to us, but fencers are serious about their craft. I recently watched a practice video with the following dialogue:

"You are using Bonetti's Defense against me, ah?"
"I thought it fitting considering the rocky terrain."
"Naturally, you must expect me to attack with Capo Ferro?"
"Naturally, but I find that Thibault cancels out Capo Ferro. Don't you?"
"Unless the enemy has studied his Agrippa... which I have!"

Was he left-handed, or perhaps had six fingers on one hand?
