I forgot last week, but here's the ACC schedule this weekend, starting tonight

Thursday
Clemson at Georgia Tech (7:30 pm, ESPN)

Saturday
Florida State at South Florida (noon, ABC)
East Carolina at Virginia Tech (12:30 pm, ACC Network)
Central Michigan at Virginia (12:30 pm, RSN)
Syracuse at UConn (1 pm CBSS)
Wagner at Boston College (1 pm, ACC Extra)
Duke at Notre Dame (3:30 pm on the Notre Dame Network -- otherwise known as NBC)
Pitt at North Carolina (3:30 pm, ESPNU)
Wake Forest at Indiana (3:30 pm, BTN)
Louisville at Marshall (8 pm, CBSSN)

Miami and NC State are off

Observations:

-- Clemson should handle Georgia Tech, but home field has had a HUGE impact in this series -- Tech has won five straight vs. Clemson in Atlanta. A year ago, they were terrible, but they upset FSU in Atlanta
-- East Carolina has won six in a row from ACC teams and two of those were over VPI; on the other hand Tech was amazingly effective against BC last week
-- Both of the Boston papers have pulled their beat reporters from the BC-Wagner game ... they are covering an auto race instead.
-- Pitt-UNC is HUGE game for the Coastal Division race

Good win for Clemson in Atlanta -- a very impressive first half, although they merely coasted through the second half.

One strange play. Clemson is up 14-0 and driving when Watson throws a pass that's intercepted in the end zone. The Tech defender tries to bring it out, but just as he crosses the goal-line, he collides with his own player and fumbles the ball -- which is kicked backwards into the end zone. Georgia Tech recovers it there, but after the refs sort it out, it's ruled a safety -- two points for Clemson.

It was funny to watch live, since the announcers had no clue that a safety was in play ... during the minute or so while the refs sorted things out, all they could talk about was Watson's mistake -- not one of the guys in the booth mentioned the possibility of a safety.

Assuming Louisville beats Marshall Saturday night, the Clemson win sets up a great one next week -- Louisville at Clemson. That's an 8 pm game, which means that those of us going to the Duke-Virginia game at 12:30 pm should have plenty of time to get back and see it.

The Clemson defense looked very quick while dismantling Georgia Tech. Speed will be required to deal with Lamar Jackson. It should be a great football game.

Virginia is clicking on both sides of the ball, against Central Michigan, up 28-0 with 10 minutes remaining in the 2nd quarter.

Central Michigan fought back with two touchdowns to cut Virginia's lead to 28-14 at the half. The 2nd half should be interesting.

Virginia Tech is destroying East Carolina 38-0 at the half. Wow! I have not seen any of the game but the VT offense appears to be for real scoring 87 points over the past six quarters.

CMU with a Pick 6 to cut the lead to 28-21. Big Mo has changed sides.

Contract with the Devil (ESPN) has ruined ACC football experience. All games in the afternoon this hot September day. Looked in on the FSU game at South Florida. Maybe 1/4 full stadium and the few fans shown close-up looked miserable and fanning constantly.

Don't think fans will come back with this type schedule.

CMU scores on the first play of the fourth quarter to tie it up at 28-all.

This would be a soul-crushing collapse if the Cavs don't turn it around.

FSU rolling after a slow start.

And VPI is absolutely destroying ECU -- to me, that's their second really strong performance in a row.

FWIW, BC is muddling past Wagner, while Syracuse and UConn are in a tight one.

Wake beat Indiana on the road, 33-28. Now 4-0. They're not flashy, but are a very solid football team. Our loss to them certainly was not a bad one.

The ACC finished the weekend 8-0 against OOC competition.

That's 30-9 for the season ... 21-8 against FBS opponents and now 7-5 against power five foes.

Eight more P5 games left in the regular season -- four against Notre Dame and four vs. SEC foes on Nov. 26 (South Carolina at Clemson; Florida at FSU, Kentucky at Louisville and Georgia Tech at Georgia)
