I was wondering how that number compared to the other ACCT semifinal. According to Sports Media Watch (http://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2017/03/duke-unc-ratings-acc-tournament-viewership-espn-notre-dame-fsu/), Notre Dame-FSU got 1.8 million viewers.
Some good stuff in that linked article. For example, 109,000 saw the game on WatchESPN, the most ever. And the roughly 3 million who saw the ESPN broadcast is the fifth biggest of the season.
1. Duke at UNC
2. UNC-Kentucky (Las Vegas)
3. Kansas at Kentucky
4. UNC at Duke
5. Duke-UNC (ACCT)

These figures are interesting. Syracuse has a large and loyal fan base, which likely has something to do with the higher number there. But it would also be interesting to know (though I admit I am too lazy to do the research) what other sports options were available at the same time, on the ESPN stations or even elsewhere. That could make a big difference for ESPNU ratings generally, I suspect.

Syracuse also had the highest rated game of this past weekend so maybe it is their fanbase. Of course, thing like network and lead-in impact ratings greatly in addition to competition. The earlier games can get solid ratings with weaker competition while our UNC game was definitely hurt by being at 7pm on Sunday competing with plenty of other college and other sports.
