Happy Memorial Day!

The above linked article is from a political website, but the article is apolitical, and is a well-written "thank you" from an Englishman to the American servicemen who died in World War II helping to defend his country. It's a nice reminder that on a day which, because of the time of year, is frequently thought of mainly as the advent of the summer season of pools, beaches, hot dogs, etc, it should always also be a day of solemn thankfulness to those Americans who gave their lives in defense of our freedom...or, frequently, the freedom of others.

God bless the men and women of our Military that gave it all and the men and women that were wounded while serving our country. God bless the USA. Still the greatest on this earth. GoDuke!

I was at a church service in South Hill, Va ( long story why I was there) yesterday and the minister, to demonstrate the importance of service, showed a video of Buzz Williams talking to his players about service and how to show respect during the national anthem. He did this last November at the start of the season. I apologize if this had been mentioned on DBR before - I could not find it if it was.

I found this immensely moving and very much fitting with Memorial Day and the remembrance of those who have fought and died to allow us to live this life of freedom we enjoy.

JUST A COMMON SOLDIER

He was getting old and paunchy and his hair was falling fast,
And he sat around the Legion, telling stories of the past.
Of a war that he had fought in and the deeds that he had done,
In his exploits with his buddies; they were heroes, every one.
