So, another thread mentioned Roosevelt Jones and Perry Ellis as guys who are done this year who seem to have finally exhausted 12 years of eligibility.

As we launch into the offseason, thought it would be fun to consolidate some of those other guys who seemed to play for far more than four years.

Now accepting nominationa for "lifers."

Good one. I would vote to separate this into ACC and non-ACC lists.

Perry Ellis for sure, and also Trevor Cooney.

Seemed like Aaron Craft was at Ohio State forever, Travis Trice was at MSU forever, and Darius Miller at Kentucky. Miller mainly because he was the lone guy playing who wasn't one-and-done.

Greg Oden was 39 while at Ohio State.

Got them beat. Gimel Martinez is 44 and still plays for Kentucky! Look -- he wears his age!

His career statistics (http://www.bigbluehistory.net/bb/statistics/Players/Martinez_Gimel.html) say he played from 1990-1994, but stats lie. I still see him at the end of the bench, ready to check into games.

Is this about players that looked old or players that seemed to be in school forever? Because Oden was one and done.

It was only 8 years, and it was allowed. Codi got 4 years of eligibility under the name Codi Miller, and then got a new 4 years after he married Reba.

Definitely Perry Ellis. When I watched Kansas games with my buddies who are big Jayhawk fans it was always a series of jokes about it:

* Remember when Ellis passed to Mario Chambers for that big shot in the title game?
* Remember when Ellis was one of the many riding on Danny Manning's back to the title?
* Remember when Ellis started in that triple OT game that Wilt didn't pull out?
* Remember when Ellis helped Dr. Naismith invent the game?
* Remember when God took Eve's rib and made Ellis?

Greg Oden was 39 while at Ohio State.

Lying about his age, probably, like many people who say they're 39.

But yeah, he was one-and-done. Going back a little further at OSU, it would be totally understandable if you thought maybe Granville Waiters was a 25th-year senior:

My neighbors and I had a similar back and forth about Roosevelt Jones.

Songaila is exactly the sort of guy I was referring to.

Legend has it there's still a grease spot on the floor at Mackey Arena from all the charges he took and loose balls he dove for.

Seemed that way, but really that's not back in the day. Back in the DAY of freshman ineligiblity (what no AFAM classes?), Steve Previs, John Kuester and George Karl (h. erectus) played for-EVER. The fact that were all interchangeable PGs in Dean's 4-corners (though Karl was more a shooting guard if memory serves) made their existence in this universe all the more intolerable. For like 10 years Dean trotted out one of these guys who were fundamentally sound and absolute money from 12 to 18 feet, particularly on the secondary break. I thought they'd never leave. Freshmen became eligible in 1972 just in time for the arrival of Phil Ford who redefined the PG role in the 4 corners scheme to intensify and prolong my misery.

Toby Bailey and Perry Ellis played high school ball together, Bailey a couple years older than Ellis. They were without a doubt one of the best high school basketball duos to play in the 80s. Toby Bailey played at UCLA for about 14 years, while Ellis is graduating after year 30 at Kansas.

Stilman White was a freshman back in 11-12.

Oh and got another for you guys...ADAM BOONE. He played two years at UNC, sat out a year after transfering to Minnesota and he was given another year after a torn bicep. His college career started in 2000 and ended in 2006.

One very obvious and one not
Tyler Hansbrough I'm not sure if anyone else here was ready when he was done.

Richard Arthur "Dick" Grubar my sister had a crush on him and I was a kid and that got on my nerves
I wanted to include the last name because I confess to being guilty of using his nickname and applying it to many more tar heels after he finally finished his time on the hill.
