My main takeaway from this article is that 1999 was a REALLY disappointing title game. The only other team in the remote galaxy (within 100 ELO points) of the 1999 team is...the 1992 team. Not even 1991 UNLV or 2001 Duke are within 100 points.

Shoulda..coulda...woulda...sigh...

Hate to say it but I think there was a lot more thinking about NBA draft possibilities than the opponent for that team. They sleepwalked through the semifinal but there talent won out to get them to that final where they still almost got the ring. You need more than just talent, you have to want to win every loose ball and get every rebound. I'm writing this on a day where MSU and WVU are losing first round games and destroying my brackets.

If it makes you feel better, the 2015 team wasn't within 100 points of Wisconsin, and they won the Natty.

In fairness, UConn did spend more time at #1 than Duke that season, and they did finish with only two losses as well.

I think a fair argument could be made that the 1999 title game was simply a meeting of two great teams, and it just did not work out for the good guys.
