Nice post. For those of us who were too young to remember this, it's nice to realize just how long K has been winning. We are lucky.

Of course, if only K had played a longer bench, the score wouldn't have been so close ;). I mean, how can Ferry only get 19 minutes?

The thing that's neat about the game-for me, at least--is the quality of the seniors. Johnny Dawkins, Mark Alarie, David Henderson, Jay Bilas, Mark Price and John Salley were all seniors. Tommy Amaker and Bruce Dalrymple were juniors.

Really talented college players who have played together for a long time. It's a great mix.

As an aside, the ACC that year also had seniors Brad Daugherty, Steve Hale, Nate McMillan, Ernie Myers and Len Bias. Imagine talents at the level of Dawkins, Daugherty or Bias staying four years today.

Geez, those shorty shorts!

Thanks for reminding me how much I couldn't stand Al McGuire.

Thanks for posting that link. I haven't watched that game since it happened. I will save the link to rewatch it later in the week when I have some time.

Minus the short shorts, I miss those uniforms. Such a classic look.

Great Post.. Remember it well. The weekend before Duke clinched their first ACC Regular Season under Coach K.

Their was a picture in the N&O the next day showing some serious vertical leap by Coach K at the end.

Kenny "worst" Wirtz as the official. We definitely loved giving him a hard time. :)

IIRC, I think it was Lenny. Could've been as much a Richard as Paparo...

I was there to see that one too. Henderson had a great game. I always enjoyed seeing Henderson go head to head against Curtis Hunter of the Heels and getting the best of him. I don't know why I enjoyed it so much... Oh yeah, I do know why.

Yeah. Richard was ahead of me one day entering a building and shouted out to him: "Open the Door Richard, don't close the door on me, dick."
