I'm looking for ways to get my bball-loving son to read in Spanish, and so I'm looking for a Spanish-language magazine that one can subscribe to in the States. Any thoughts? Gigantes del Basket appears to be the leading Spanish bball magazine, but it seems difficult to subscribe to in the US.

Tu hijo can always go to online sites for plenty of basketball news.

Sport.es is published in Barcelona and they favor FC Barcelona in all sports, but their basketball link has plenty of information on the NBA and the Euroleague. The advantage of reading about the NBA is that he would already know something about the players and the games, so having that context makes it much easier to learn a new language:

As.com is in Madrid so they favor the Real Madrid losers, but they have a separate page for the NBA:

Marca.com is also in Madrid, and they have a basketball page as well:

The only problem with Marca is that they can be a little sensationalistic, but that could provide your son with a major incentive to bone up on his Spanish, as it were:

Thanks Miramar! Those are great links and perhaps I should just acknowledge the existence of the new millennium and go with the on-line stuff. One virtue of paper, however, is that I can tell what the little bugger is reading while sitting across the room:).
