Congrats as well. We are all proud of you both - as players and, even more, as men. Good luck in your future careers.

Jeremy Cash also on Sports Illustrated first team All-America team

Only 10 players averaged more TFLs than Cash despite his role in the secondary. He also made 101 tackles.

Cash was named to the Walter Camp Foundation first team tonight -- that's a big one ... it's the first of the five teams that officially counts towards consensus All-American status.

Cash did lose out on the Thorpe Award.

On the whole, I didn't like the Camp team -- Fournette over McCaffrey at running backs ad Mayfield over Watson for first team quarterback?

Cash was named to the first AP All-America team announced today.

That's his fifth first-team A-A honor ... and makes him 2-for-2 on the five teams that count for consensus honors.

The Football Writers team comes out Monday.

The Sporting News team comes out Tuesday

The Football Coaches team comes out Wednesday.

On Thursday, the NCAA will announce the consensus A-A team.

PS According to Duke, this is the first time in history that Duke has had back-to-back first-team All-Americans on the AP team -- Laken Tomlinson last year and Cash this year.

Caught the Lott Award ceremony on MSG last night (had no idea DirecTV was that generous) and although Jeremy didn't win, he spoke eloquently about his time at Duke and his academic focus.
And he looked absolutely smashing in his Duke Blue formal bow tie! What a handsome young man.

The Football Writer's team was announced today and Cash was the top vote getter at defensive back.

That makes him 3-for-3 on the teams that count towards consensus. In fact, it's looking like he could go 5-for-5, which would make him a unanimous All-American ... that's something that even Laken didn't accomplish last year. I don't know when or if Duke has ever has a unanimous first-team All-American in football.

Duke has had just five consensus All-Americans:

1933 Freddie Crawford
1936 Ace Parker
1971 Ernie Jackson
1989 Clarkston Hines
2014 Laken Tomlinson

Note: Upon checking ... it seems that Hines was Duke only unanimous first-team All-American. Cash is a mortal lock to be Duke's sixth consensus pick ... can he be the second unanimous pick? We'll find out in the next two days -- The Sporting News tomorrow and the Coaches team on Wednesday. Those are the last two that count towards consensus/unanimous honors.

There have been two players that could deliver the hits so well that I almost immediately "knew" they would be stars in their respective sports. Manny Ramirez was one, and the fabulous Mr. Cash is the other.

Just an update: Cash did make The Sporting News first team. Interesting that the Sporting News has not been very kind to Duke's stars over the years. He's just the fourth Duke player to win first-team honors from TSN.

That makes him 4 of 5 an assures him consensus status ... now if he makes the Football Coaches first team Wednesday, he'll become Duke's second unanimous first-team All-American (after Clarkston Hines in 1989). Note: The Sporting News team was not one of the teams counted for consensus/unanimous honors in 1989,

The release:

Cash Receives Sporting News All-America Honor
December 15, 2015
DURHAM, N.C. – Duke redshirt senior safety Jeremy Cash continued collecting All-America accolades Tuesday with his selection to the Sporting News (SN) All-America first team, according to an announcement by the publication. It is the first time Cash has received SN All-America honors and his seventh All-America selection this year.

Cash becomes just the fourth Blue Devil to receive first team Sporting News honors, joining Bill Milner in 1946, Bob Matheson in 1966 and Brian Morton in 2000. On any team, Cash is Duke’s 10th SN representative.

A 6-2, 210-pound native of Miami, Fla., Cash is the first Duke student-athlete to receive first, second or third team All-America honors in three seasons. He earned his 2015 accolades after receiving ACC Defensive Player of the Year and first-team all-league selections.

Cash has registered 101 tackles, 18.0 tackles for lost yardage, 2.5 sacks, eight quarterback pressures, four pass breakups, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He is one of only three active players with three or more 100-tackle seasons.

Cash and the Blue Devils return to action December 26 in New York, N.Y., for the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. on ABC.
