The Alex Murphy Transfers to Florida thread was closed, so I didn't really have a spot for this.

I thought this was news that some folks around here would like to know. Murphy is out due to tearing the plantar fascia in his right foot during Thursday night's exhibition game:

I feel for the guy. He can't seem to catch a break. It was an summer injury that set him back early on in his Duke career. He transfers to Florida and Donovan leaves. Now this.

From what I understand, that's a pretty painful injury. One of my best friends was in a cast for 6 weeks with that injury earlier this year. I hope Alex has full recovery and a great season.

My wife and I met Alex in K-ville about a week before it was announced that he was leaving Duke. He seemed like a very polite young man and I am still pulling for him. Hope his rehab goes well and he is able to perform well in the time he has left at UF.

Poor Robocop.

I tried to get some students to use it as a nickname when he was still at Duke. To my amazement it didn't seem to catch on that well. Maybe a few more years would have made the difference, or maybe I just like the '80s too much.

Wish it were Northwestern.

A great spot for him. I remember watching him in the open scrimmage and CtC the year he transferred, and he pretty much single-handedly brought the reserves to a tie with the starters. He and Rodney just kept going at each other and nobody could stop them from getting to the rim. He just never seemed comfortable in games, especially when he wasn't getting consistent PT; I remember joking with a friend that if he was sent to the line, he was sure to miss the first, adjust, and make the second.

At Northeastern, he should be the guy, and he's always been better off in that role. Not quite good enough to be the number one option at an elite program, but he always looked so good when he got in rhythm and people fed him the ball. I really hope he gets his chance to shine for once.
