THAT... I did not call. ;)

Unbelievable that they reviewed and STILL blew it.

And illegally overturned a penalty to boot. :(

What can you do when the refs totally disregard the rule book during the game deciding play? At this point I consider Duke a 1 loss* football team.

* one of two losses due to referee error

Lots of pics (and video) of the knee down and the various back-blocks over at TDD...

Yes, I saw that one and told the wife it was over. Really can't see how they blew that one.

After seeing the evidence, there's no doubt Duke was hosed. Somebody in the ACC office ought to do the right thing. But we all know they won't. Just more official's
incompetence glaringly out there for all to see. Another fact is, we could and should have never let it come down to this. Our play calling was horrendous throughout much of the game. However, don't read this as a knock on Coach Cut. The man has revived a dead program, made us relevant again. But the plays were very suspect, to say the least.
It's going to be hard, but the team needs to put this behind them and beat UNC next week. Gonna be very interesting.

I have a theory.

John Swofford was on the other end of the Ref's phone call to the booth.

How could they take 8 minutes and not see that?

You assume they were looking at video instead of checking to see if the payoff arrived in their numbered account in Switzerland.

But is there actual ground below the knee? Clearly not enough video evidence to overrule the possibility of the existence of a hole directly below the knee- or so they will argue.

on the Duke drive too. I think there was a 'make up' aspect to the penalty reversal on the very last play.
Just brutal officiating. For the most part, the less I see of the refs the better.

Integrity...I don't have to give the definition here.

They saw 1 of the 3 clipping violations and threw flags.

I give the refs on the field, a pass on the knee down. It was a 'Bang-Bang' thing, and they could have seen it as a fumble.

The replay refs have NO excuse! As you watch the ball-carrier reach the ground, HIS PANTS BUCKLE as the knee makes contact with the ground.
How much evidence do you kneed?

The conference office still has an opportunity to do the right thing.
We wait.

I know your post is <sarcasm>, but, what do they need to see, the sprinkler/drainage system under the turf before they conclude his knee (and entire leg from the knee to the ankle/foot) was on the grass? :rolleyes:

Think of what may be achieved in the wars of Duke hate.
Will others, across our amber waves of grain, feel sympathy for this injustice?

NAH.

don't forget #11 running onto the field with his helmet off BEFORE the runner crossed the line....

The Fox Sports FB rules specialist (Mike Peiria, former NFL official-I may have spelling and/or his exact credentials wrong) tweeted this would be a dead ball foul and be assessed after the play. Don't ask me to explain why a 12th man running onto the field from the sidelines during live action would be a "dead ball" foul:confused:. Once again, it shouldn't/wouldn't matter if they had properly called/reviewed the knee down and play/game over and/or the block/s in the back penalties on the return (not sure this would end the game or give them an "untimed" play as I swear I heard the referee say on the field as I was listening to the radio).

Yeah, the focus needs to be in the following steps of incompetence:

1. Missing the runner being down;
2. Missing the blatant block in the back at Miami's ~15-20 yard line on our side of the field;
3. The incorrect interpretation of the "untimed down" issue (when the offending team is the one that would benefit from the penalty, there is no untimed down);
4. Failing to correctly overturn the call on the field that the runner was down; and
5. The abuse of the rules in overturning an unreviewable penalty after review.
