According to Mark Stein (https://twitter.com/ESPNSteinLine/status/623650819070562304), the Kings are about to sign Seth to a contract.

ESPN sources say Kings are in advanced discussions with Seth Curry and closing in on a deal to sign the Vegas Summer League sensation

-Jason "I wonder if Seth still qualifies as a rookie or if he played enough games to be a vet. Hoping he is a vet so he can make more money!" Evans

And now Adrian Wojarnowski (or something like that) is saying (https://twitter.com/WojYahooNBA/status/623652565868249088)that it is a 2 year guaranteed contract with the 2nd year at the player's option. Meaning that if Seth has a decent season, he can opt out. That's a pretty sweet deal for an undrafted free agent who has done little more than light up other guys who are not quite NBA quality for the past 2 years. Way to go Seth!!

-Jason "he's a millionaire! Not a multi-millionaire yet, but a millionaire at age 24 is pretty sweet" Evans

Way to go, Seth!

Should this great news about Seth be on a separate thread! I really hope he kills it!

Last year... if I got this right... the Warriors beat the Kings 4 games to 1. Maybe Seth will be able to balance that out. Should be a very nice Curry family outing.

Never thought this was gonna happen. Didn't think he had the physical tools that his brother had, height, speed, and handles to be able to make it. Kid worked on his game a ton and was obviously the best player at Summer League from my view point. Proud of him. Wish he would have gone to a less dysfunctional franchise, but if he plays well, he can become an asset and hopefully get traded to somewhere decent.

The NBA is the NBA. i am sorry though that the Kings' games are unlikely to be televised on ESPN or TNT.

Seth Curry did lead the Summer League in scoring, and the Pelicans have a few open spots on their roster, so there is room for confidence.

According to Mark Stein (https://twitter.com/ESPNSteinLine/status/623650819070562304), the Kings are about to sign Seth to a contract.

For selfish reasons, I have mixed feelings about this. The local team is the Pelicans, but being the Kings GM in the recent mock draft (http://forums.dukebasketballreport.com/forums/showthread.php?36084) made me pay attention and maybe start to care about the dumpster fire in Sacramento. Remember, this is a team with a Carolina guy as head coach and a Kentucky guy as its most talented player (and arguably another Kentucky guy as its second most talented player).

We may never know for sure, but the Pelicans seemed to blow their opportunity this past week by prioritizing other signings (Alonzo Gee, Luke Babbitt, Kendrick Perkins) and filling up their roster. Based on general rumblings, Seth is getting a better contract with the Kings than he would have with the Pelicans.

Seth figures to be the third point guard of the team behind Darren Collison and Rajon Rondo. (David Stockton has a non-guaranteed contract and becomes expendable.) Considering that everyone thought Ty Lawson was getting traded to Sacramento, including Ty Lawson (http://blogs.denverpost.com/nuggets/2015/06/25/watch-ty-lawson-smokes-hookah-while-watching-draft-says-im-going-to-sacramento/13040/), this end result is major upgrade, if we consider things like character and maturity.

Here are links from the Sacramento Bee (http://www.sacbee.com/sports/nba/sacramento-kings/kings-blog/article28071556.html) and the New Orleans Times-Picayune (http://www.nola.com/pelicans/index.ssf/2015/07/pelicans_lose_out_on_guard_set.html#incart_river). (And here's a bonus article (http://www.nola.com/pelicans/index.ssf/2015/07/pelicans_sign_kendrick_perkins.html#incart_most-read_pelicans_article) titled "Pelicans sign Kendrick Perkins and the question is 'Why?'.")

Every season in which you have an NBA contract counts as a year of service, so this will be Seth's 3rd year, which sets his minimum at the around $1 Million being reported. An interesting case this year is another D League veteran being signed, Willie Reed of the Nets, who also is considered a 3rd year player despite never playing in an NBA game.

Interesting to see that Seth chose Sacramento over home town Charlotte. The Hornets really need outside shooting.

The lesser of two evils? --- a team with a UNC head coach vs a team with a UNC owner?

Probably a one-year guarantee vs. a two-year guaranteed contract.

Hmm... a mess in the making vs a hot, hot mess with a stench none may abide.

Was Seth ever in discussions with Charlotte?

A scant reference in the article by AdWoj (http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources--seth-curry-003345228.html)linked on the Front Page:

Curry’s ability to shoot made him an increasingly attractive bench scoring option for several teams, including New Orleans and Charlotte, league sources said.

Two years guaranteed, the second being a player option. Nice! Congrats Seth!

I just realized this but....he'll also be pretty close to his brother. Sacramento is only 1.5 hours from Oakland. Maybe they can have sleepovers like old time's sake.

I'm really happy to hear that Seth has earned a guaranteed contract. I have to admit, however, that I wish the contract was with a better organization. The Kings seem like a bit of a dumpster fire waiting to happen.

Are they not already a dumpster fire that has happened?

Hey, at least Seth didn't sign with the Knicks.

Yeah, Bieber, they probably already are a dumpster fire. They have been there so many times in the past....

People in the Kings organization call the Knicks a dumpster fire!

Yes, but it could be a good situation for Seth to get some minutes. A higher caliber organization might have more trouble working him into the rotation.

Well, except that he is the third PG behind Rondo and Collison. And both of those guys are smaller, which makes it unlikely he plays alongside them.

Maybe Curry gets run in 2016/17, but it is hard to see him getting many minutes this year.

If he was looking for immediate minutes, the Pelicans might have made more sense.

Sure, but you have to factor in the possibility that one or both of the guys ahead of him could be spite-traded by George Karl, opening up minutes during the season.

Curry will quickly become the 2nd PG behind Collison. It's not a question of "if", but of "when". Doc Rivers is really a magician if he was able to make Rondo successful.

Collison played 45 games last year. Rondo hasn't played more than 68 games in a season in any of the past 5 seasons. Seth will get some time when those guys are resting and/or hurt.

He is getting real old. Ask anybody who has to watch him play - it gets real old real fast.

Yeah, count me in the camp that this is awesome. First, he is in the NBA, guaranteed, for 2 yrs. Kid has made the Show for 2 years at least! Second, the 2nd year is player option, and like others pointed out, that gives him the flexibility to bolt if the dumpster fire is too big in Sacramento, provided another team wants him. I would expect he would be wanted by others because I feel he has developed his game to the point where he will be a solid reserve for most any team. In the unlikely case he is not wanted, then fine, he just plays the second year in Sacramento. He is going to make killer money from a normal human's point of view.

Finally, as you aptly point out, with the Kings, he might get more minutes than he would on a better team. Personally, I think, again, Seth has raised the level of his game, and developed to the point where I believe he will perform well when given minutes. There will be a learning curve, and adjustments to make, similar to what JJ went through, but I believe Seth is going to stick.

Congrats to #30! You have made DBR proud and we are your unofficial fan club! Well done! You can thank us by being a guest on the DBR Podcast!

This is an excellent example of talent + hard work = opportunity! I'm very excited for him. Like other posters in this thread, I wish it had been for a different team. Hopefully he kills it this year and has better options to consider for next season. The Battle of the Brothers Curry should be fun to watch this year, hopefully it leads to some fun family shoot-outs on the court!
