No basketball competitors this time, but we have three other athletes competing with two of them starting on Saturday in South Korea.

Raphael Hemmeler is representing Switzerland and won his first Singles match 6-3 6-3 against Roman Trkulja of Canada and Penn State.

Emily Sklar had 7 kills, but the United States lost 18-25 25-18 25-23 25-21 to Japan to open the volleyball tournament.

Emily Sklar made a brief appearance in the 4th as the United States lost 25-22 24-26 25-22 25-20 to Finland.

Raphael Hemmeler lost 6-4 6-0 to local favorite Chung Hyeon who also happens to be the 79th ranked player in the entire world. I think he will go into consolation rounds later.

Emily Sklar and the United States continued to struggle after being swept 25-13 25-19 25-12 by Brazil. They will now go into the consolation round to play for 9th place.

Raphael Hemmeler started Mixed Doubles partnering Sarah Moundir, a former pro who is now apparently an International Relations student at the University of Geneva. They beat a duo from Lebanon 6-0 6-1. One of those players attends Notre Dame, but the one in Lebanon and not the one here.

Madeline Kopp finishes second in her 400m heat to qualify for the semifinals.

Emily Sklar lead the United States with 11 kills as they finally win, sweeping Chile 25-23 25-23 25-11 in the quest for 9th place.

Emily Sklar had 5 kills as the United States will play for 9th place after beating Switzerland 20-25 25-21 25-21 25-16.

Madeline Kopp finished 5th in the semifinals to fall short of qualifying for the finals of the 400m.

Raphael Hemmeler lost 6-1 6-2 in Mixed Doubles to the Polish duo of Justyna Jegiolka and Maciej Smola. They are both current pros and she may or may not be studying Management at the Academy of Management and Administration in Opole and he may or may not be studying Physical Education at the College of Education and Administration in Poznan.

Emily Sklar played briefly as the United States got revenge on Finland and took 9th place with a 25-22 21-25 21-25 25-19 15-4 win.
