The Duke men's lacrosse team is the No. 5 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. We get Ohio State in the first round, then most likely No.4 Denver -- at Denver -- in the second round. Nnotre Dame is the overall No. 1 seed, followed by Syracuse at No. 2 and UNC at No. 3.

The women's team is the No. 3 seed. We get a first-round bye and will play the winner of James Madison vs. Southern California in the second round. Maryland is the overall No. 1 seed and UNC is No. 2.

So the ACC has four of the top five seeds in the NCAA tournament? And the fifth team in the five-team ACC is the 7th seed? (And former ACC member Maryland is the 6th seed.) Wow.

Yup. No surprise there, the way the teams have been playing this year. In fact, there is probably an argument to be made that UVA should have gotten the 6 with Maryland's struggles the past few weeks.

The SEC may be strong in football, but the strongest conference in any one sport is the ACC in Men's Lacrosse, hands down. In no other sport would the team that finished last in its conference (and wasn't even invited to its own conference's tournament) get the 7 seed in the national tournament. The ACC is the league for lacrosse, and it is quite possible, if we happen to beat Denver in Denver, that we'll have an all-ACC Championship Weekend.
