Lost a lot of respect for him. As far as officiating am I the only one that thinks the foul trouble Winslow & Okafor got in early was due to some questionable calls? Badgers 2 fouls at halftime. USA Today has a link up about officiating. And the beat goes on.

Wisconsin got a huge bucket Saturday night after the shot clock expired. I have not heard that much said about it. Can you even imagine if Duke got that call?

A lot was said about that -- it was a story under the headline too, just like the questionably out of bounds call last night.

Just not a lot was said by Wisconsin.

More like Bo Cryin', amirite? :)

re: Wisconsin and "rent-a-players", Russell Wilson says hi.

Not surprising that Wisc. doesn't have "paper classes" - apparently they have no class at all.

Now I understand why Maryland belongs in the Big10.

I've never seen a post-game (locker room) interview with the losing coach where the coach didn't even manage a tepid congratulations to the winning team. And then Greg Gumble, obviously not actually listening to what Bo said, congratulated him on being so gracious in defeat... Maybe the most surreal 5 minute stretch of the night IMO.

So you didn't watch the part where Grayson Allen was the best player on the court?

Way, way, WAY too much harping on Wisconsin going on here and in the postgame thread. All these comments about "losing respect" for Bo Ryan and his players are ridiculous. I suggest the mods remove this thread - it's embarrassing.

Guys, let's be magnanimous in victory. Wisconsin suffered a devastating defeat, and the refs definitely played a role. Let's cut them some slack for some of the postgame comments, rather than giving the anti-Duke crowd any more fodder.

If you don't like people discussing this issue then simply stay off the thread. It bothers me when people are so judgmental about what others are talking about on a message board. It's a message board for goodness sakes!!

Duke just won the National Championship and there are a number of story lines to discuss. Let people discuss what they wish.

I disagree for a few reasons:

-I think the folks on this board might have some sympathy if Ryan was carping about the bad calls that were actually bad calls - the late out of bounds off of Justise where Duke was allowed to keep the ball, the Justise foot out of bounds that they missed, and even the Justise drive that was called a block instead of a charge. Those were either straight missed calls or ones that looked wrong. Instead, he chose to proclaim that the refs let us play an overly physical game on both ends which led to his team losing - that we were allowed to hand check them and jump into them in clear violation of the rule book.

-Nearly every national media outlet is taking him to task for his sour grapes

-His "we don't do rent-a-player" comments were uncalled for. Go back to DII if you don't like the arena. If you decide to step into the octagon earning the millions that come with it, then you in the octagon, son.

[/QUOTE]

Complaining about the officiating after a loss isn't "sour grapes." That phrase refers to the fable about the fox and the grapes, where the vines are too high for the fox to reach, and the fox says he didn't want those grapes because they were sour. Coach Ryan did want these grapes but just couldn't get them. "Sour grapes" is the Carolina player (I think it was Brendan Haywood) saying after his team lost in the ACC Tournament that the ACC tourney was "small change."

I could give Ryan some slack if this was a one time crying a river. He's done the same thing many times over the years. When his team loses, he never gives the winning team any praise. Even Wisconsin alum know this about the guy. The bad thing about his comments was some of his players picked up on his comments and said some of the same things the Cry Baby Ryan said. He reminds me of Dean Smith in this regard. Dean's teams were never beaten by a better team, it was the refs, clock keepers, etc. Give me a break. GoDuke!

Bo Ryan whining about the officials after a loss.... but it's from a Minnesota fan site in 2009!

Grayson looks like a young Ted Cruz, no?

Agreed with comment upthread re: Ryan looking like the Grinch. I've thought that for years.

As to the side topic in this thread, I'm just so glad, as a native Minnesotan, to see so many of my fellow alums get to know Wisconsin up close and personal and come away with the same impression those of us who grew up next door have always had.

Good point. Second most surreal thing...

The two shots of the night: Grayson's first three (down 9 when Duke's offense was sputtering); the Tyus dagger with a buck and a half left in the game...

well done Billy Dat. Like Duke, you finished strong! Now I can stop being bothered by who I think these guys resemble. I'd love for Marshall to meet Hilary Swank and get a photo together. That might break the internet (if Marshall were more well known).

Thanks, cspan...when SI's Grant Wahl used to cover the college basketball beat, he had a weekly mailbag column called "the Bag" and, for a while, he used to ask for these "separated at birth" nominations and I used to always try and send some in...it is a fun parlor game. The Gasser/Blatt one came to me in the middle of last night's game as I tried to do anything to remain calm.

Followed closely, I believe, by Kenny Smith proclaiming "DUKE. DUKE. DUKE."

Perhaps Greg decided what he would say ahead of time, regardless of what the interviewee said.
