It has been driving me crazy wondering about this all year, so often when they show the bench, I see this young guy in street clothes at the end. Does anyone know who he is and what his story is? This link contains a picture of the person in question:

Sean Obi, transfer from Rice, who has to sit out this year. He is a center, and had roughly 10 and 10 at his freshman year at Rice.

Generally transfer students aren't allowed to travel with the team. My understanding is that he's made his own arrangements to get to the games...unless the NCAA rules changed.

Last time we had a guy like that sitting at the end of the bench, it worked out that way.

I had to look it up. For like a month I thought Semi was still hanging with the team but gained 90 pounds and hit a growth spurt.

Sean sported the tux jacket and bow tie for the natty tonight. Very well dressed.

The tuxedo was awesome. Obi's now an instant fan favorite, at least to this fan.

That makes three national titles in a row with a transfer sitting on the bench.

In 2001, it was Dahntay Jones

In 2010, it was Seth Curry

In 2015, is was Sean Obi

It didn't work with Rodney Hood on the bench in 2013, but that team did get to the Elite Eight.

This kid is a man as they say. He is 6'9" and 270 pounds. He has a year of on court experience plus has scrimmaged with the team for a year and should have improved greatly as a result. We will have him as a center along with MP3. In addition we will have Chase Jeter and Amile Jefferson as forwards. We will be fine at the front court positions going foRWARD.

Another weird factoid. Each of Duke's last three title teams had a player transfer at the semester break, Andre Sweet in 2000-01, Olek Czyz in 2009-10 and Semi Ojeleye, this year.

Talk about your bad timing.

It's going to feel very strange to root for a player to transfer next year!
