Viking Guy checking in. Where are all my old skool DBR peoples? I obviously will be doing nothing productive today, and would rather hear from you clowns than even attempt anything that resembles "work".

What a fun, fantastic team this had been to watch. Tonight I want to see us make Wisconsin play fast, increase the number of possessions, and rain down threes on them. If we can do that, and deny perimeter shooting, I love our chances. Let Kaminsky get his. he couldn't beat us earlier this season all on his own, and there's no reason to think tonight would be different.

Hope to see any DC residents at Laughing Man tonight. Let's bring home a banner.

Chime in if you remember the parquet floor!

I'm one of those folks who found the DBR after hanging out for a while on rec.sports.basketball.college. I used to get in trouble for "hanging out too much on the internet," back when most folks were still asking, "What is the internet?"

I don't remember exactly when I found DBR but I have been an Internet user since about 1990. I well remember the parquet floor and submitting posts for moderation and then receiving an email that allowed posting. Then after being found to be rational, reasonable and reliable, being granted direct posting rights. Ahhhhhh, the glory of it all!

Wasn't it the 1997 recruiting class with three of the (at the time) top 5 players in Brand, Battier and Burgess, along with around #30 Will Avery? Since Battier was the first to commit, my vague recollection/guess is that it was the commitment of Brand that started GGLC.

You mean you got direct posting rights?!? Grrrr....... But I was probably less rational back in the 'Blue Grouse' days.

I'm still here, but I haven't done anything as interesting as starting the Patrick Davidson thread.

Sitting in my hotel room in Indy with daughter and granddaughter. The little one, age 9, got to meet Seth Davis at the break on the studio show Saturday night -- she's very happy about that. We're all looking forward to tonight.

Ding ding ding ding!

Battier committed and then we got Brand. Someone, I want to say it was Greg Sowell, stated that he was "Getting Giddy." I commented that it appeared we were leading in the race to get consensus (at the time) 1 recruit in the class Chris Burgess and I said, "Getting Giddy, Losing Control." It was soon shortened to GGLC.

Have to say I've never been fond of having an abbreviated, cutesy catchphrase that includes the word "giddy", but then I'm just a nobody :-)

despite my obscurity, however, I was also around for the parquet floor days, and started posting back when you had to wait for a code. I don't post much but remember and miss reading the comments of several people mentioned here. Funny how attached you can become to a virtual community

Also known as Dave Chen's Chat 'n' Flame. Man, it was fun to go over there and poke the bear sometimes, especially after games like UNC's first-round loss to Weber State in 1999. Think I got banned from there under four or five different aliases.

I remember well the parquet floor and juliovision days. In fact, I remember the original message borad -- before James' SBBS board with the posting codes. The original board had no registration, no codes, no nothing. It lasted maybe 3-4 weeks before it was overrun by Kentucky flamers and J&B shut it down. Then they implemented James' board, and things were a little more under control. Until, of course, Bush mispronounced Battier.

Might as well. My number one goal was to get in work early this morning, and get stuff done. It is now 9:30, and that plan is ruined. Discussing the finer points of Bush v Gore sounds like the most productive way I could spend the day today.

Been around since the endless parquet floor taking forever to load with a dial up modem and sponsorship by the Stray Gator & the Grey Poupon Society (I think I remember that correctly). The software change to allow the bulletin board. The board splitting between bball and public policy. Ham Salad. Posting codes. Reading posts which initially thanked "J&B" (d)evolving to thank "J,J&B". McGrupp, Stay Gator, and Blue Bones were favorite posters and JasonEvans has always posted with a regularity that makes me wonder if he's really employed.

I'll be watching the game tonight here in California surrounded by friends, pizza and beer (and wine for the more refined tastes). Can't wait!

Looking back at my archives, thought I might find Viking way back there. I searched starting with the stuff I had from the arpanet but I couldn't access it without a teletype machine. Then everything I had from the year 2K was inaccessible because of an invalid date structure. I gave up then. Now I am wondering where he has been posting. Oh, yeah, I think he mentioned insidecarolina. I've never been there, so I gave up. By the way, I don't discuss politics, because the moderators have threatened me.

I remember posting something about how the header in this edition scared me, and the powers that be acknowledging it when they told us all change is hard, but its here.

I started coming here in '98, when my then-girlfriend, now wife introduced me to college basketball by bringing me to cameron, where we stood next to these 4 weird guys in hats and wigs. DBR enabled me to outstrip her BBall knowledge through hours of dedication and non-work.

I arrived at the Board just before the Board's blowup by Ky fans. Didn't know what I had found and it vanished for a short time. (Thought my dial-up had gone bad.) But I have hung in here ever since, even though I have long since become a dinosaur. Plus, I believe I am partially to blame for the loss of the PBB. Anyway, I'm proud of the mark(s) I, and my pre-K contemporaries, have made here.

I know who they are, but unfortunately I haven't been able to interact with them much at all since I've actually been posting here. Most of what I know comes from the folktales and urban legends espoused by the oldtimey posters (such as you Jason) who still grace us with their presence.

Also, to keep with the theme of kicking it old skool, how about this song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmDDOFXSgAs) as a title-celebration track?
