Just heard this sad news. As a kid growing up in rural Utah in the 1980s, he was one of the key voices of my adolescence. And he was the absolute best I ever heard in a radio/TV simulcast setting.

And that doesn't account for his playing career.

I, for one, will miss him and cherish the many basketball memories he provided.

With a gentle push and a mild arc, his final cowhide globe hit home.

May he rest in peace.

Second largest basketball player from WV. Only two numbers retired from WVU and he is one. A showman, I remember from the early days in the NBA.

For those who do not remember Hot Rod, here is the Wiki listing. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rod_Hundley) He was something else in his day.

Sorry to hear this. I also grew up in Utah, and listened to lots of games on the radio. Hundley was the best play-by-play guy I have ever heard. You could visualize exactly what was happening in the game at all times.
A true talent and a real basketball aficionado.

Rest in peace, Hot Rod. You were the best, and the last of the breed.

He called more Darrell Griffith rainmakers, frozen ropes, hippity-hops down the lane, Stockton-to- Malone hammer-dunks, and you-gotta-love-it baby's than I can count.
