An end of an era, a big part of what influenced me and my imagination growing up.

Rest in Peace, Leonard Nimoy.

Live long, and prosper.

He managed to take a character designed to be utterly inhuman and inject him with so much humanity. I know Leonard Nimoy somewhat hated being typecast his whole life and only being known for one role, but it is said that he grew to embrace Spock over the past decade or so and I am glad for that. He never loved or embraced the public eye the way William Shatner did, which is fine. He had no obligation to do any of that.

A remarkable actor who holds a dear place in the imagination of so many of us. Thanks for the memories.

Words were prepared for this occasion, oh, 33 years ago.

"We are assembled here today to pay final respects to our honored dead. And yet it should be noted that in the midst of our sorrow, this death takes place in the shadow of new life, the sunrise of a new world; a world that our beloved comrade gave his life to protect and nourish. He did not feel this sacrifice a vain or empty one, and we will not debate his profound wisdom at these proceedings. Of my friend, I can only say this: of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most... human."

In 1968 a young woman wrote in to FAVE magazine, with a letter addressed to Mr. Spock, about her struggles as a person of mixed race. Nimoy wrote a really kind and thoughtful reply.

He was an icon, and a great actor.

Anyone else see him when he came to Duke's campus (I think 1987)? He was great there (though his only blemish was when he said he didn't think The Next Generation would be a hit, and strongly implied that it should not be made at all). I always liked him on Star Trek. I thought he was great on In Search Of. He's the kind of person that you never really heard anything negative about.

In Search of . . . was a Sunday evening staple for us growing up.

One of his more under-appreciated works:

Says a lot about a guy that pretty much no one can think of a bad thing to say after his passing.

May his memory be a blessing to those around him and his family.

Curiously, by my count, he lived precisely six fewer days than Dean Smith (March 26, 1931 to February 27, 2015 for Nimoy; February 28, 1931 to February 7, 2015 for Smith).

One known for his ears, the other for his nose.

That almost seems ...... illogical.

RIP, Dear Vulcan.
