I know it's not Duke related, but basketball related.

Chris Bosh has been hospitalized with what they suspect is pulmonary embolism.

Sad if that's the case, but great that they caught it sooner than later. This is what was rumored as found to be the cause of Jerome Kersey's untimely passing.

Mirza Teletovic also had this issue:

I'm not Heat fan but I've always liked Chris Bosh. Every time I've heard him do an interview I come away impressed. Plus he's been on some of the kids shows my kids watch on Disney and he was great. I hope he gets healthy soon irregardless of basketball.

Yeah, what is this in such a young guy? An injury that caused a clot to migrate?

I'm a Heat fan and hate this for Bosh. He is very active in the community and seem to have become very entrenched in the city/area. Local TV is covering the situation closely. Coach Spo said (from NY where the Heat plays the Knicks tonight) that the team is focused only on Chris' health and not on the effect on the team.

No one has any real insight into the cause or origin of the embolisms. The Doctors are observing and conducting tests in an effort to ascertain the extent of the problem and determine a course of treatment. It looks like a long haul. If blood thinners are the course, it will probably be a six month treatment process that will require limited physical activity.

There is some fear that this might be career ending. Prayers by all might be appreciated.

I'm still waiting to hear this officially confirmed.

A pulmonary embolism is a pretty straightforward diagnosis these days. I keep reading that tests are inconclusive, which is highly unlikely. Maybe every one involved is holding off on sharing the news for some reason, but I don't know what that reason would be.

It's obviously unusual to have something like this happen to a young person, especially one this active. I'm sure he'll get a full work up for various clotting disorders. He did have a calf strain earlier in the season, but that seems unlikely to be a factor.

I think it's unlikely this would be career ending, unless doctors insisted he had to be on lifelong anticoagulation. Most likely he makes a complete recovery, but doubtful he'd be back on the floor until next season.

People have only had nice things to say about Bosh, who has always struck me as interesting and thoughtful. Obviously, I wish him all the best.

This is another tough break for the Heat this season, who had just pulled off a ridiculous trade, getting rid of a bunch of junk in return for an All-Star caliber point guard. They just haven't been able to keep their players on the floor this season. The long-term future looks promising again, though. Really looking forward to seeing how Dragic, Wade, and Whiteside work together, but they're going to miss the floor spacing that Bosh brings.
