Very strange report. What happen?

---------------------------------------

The mysterious illness that sidelined Trey Lyles on Saturday against Alabama could keep the Kentucky freshman from playing for a while.

Kentucky coach John Calipari told reporters on a conference call Monday morning that Lyles isn't likely to be in uniform Tuesday against Georgia and perhaps beyond. The school has not disclosed the nature of the illness nor has it released a timetable for Lyles' return.

"We don't believe he'll play Tuesday and don't know after that," Calipari said. "But we're going to try to figure that out.

"You're talking about a 6-10, talented, talented player, and we're playing without him now. I thought we played well without him (against Alabama), but we're never going to be as good without him, because he's a really good player."

The absence of Lyles slightly depletes a deep, talented Kentucky frontcourt that still boasts three 7-foot NBA prospects and promising 6-foot-10 reserve Marcus Lee. Lyles was perhaps the most offensively skilled of the bunch, however, averaging 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists in only 21 minutes per game.

The timing of the Lyles illness isn't ideal for Kentucky with the unbeaten Wildcats entering maybe their most challenging stretch of SEC play. Up next is a visit from a Georgia team that had won five straight before a loss on Saturday. Then comes road games at struggling yet dangerous Florida on Saturday and mercurial yet ultra-talented LSU three days later.

The Georgia game could pose less of a threat to Kentucky with Bulldogs star Marcus Thornton unexpected to play due to lingering concussion symptoms. Georgia lost 67-50 on Saturday at South Carolina without Thornton, who leads the team in scoring and rebounding.

This seems to happen every so often in college hoops and it's almost always mono (although his father is denying that). Link: http://kentuckysportsradio.com/basketball-2/trey-lyles-father-says-his-son-does-not-have-mono/

If this means even more playing time for Booker and Ulis, then Kentucky just got better again. Just like they got better after losing Poythress. Lyles and Poythress at the 3 is nowhere near as scary as Booker in that spot.
