Mods feel free to merge, but this seems like a big announcement. Wake and UNC will play more often in football. Is Duke likely to follow suit? Would be nice to play State more often. Maybe this could spillover into basketball.

From ESPN: UNC, Wake agree to non-ACC series (http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/12230742/acc-rivals-north-carolina-tar-heels-wake-forest-demon-deacons-agree-nonconference-series)

Here's a first - Wake and the CHeats have agreed to start a home-and-home series separate from the ACC season. The games will be considered out-of-conference and thus will not count towards the ACC standings.

Ever since the ACC expanded past nine, I've been wondering if this would ever happen in basketball. Makes sense though, the local schools are losing revenue by not playing each other more often. It does make the records seem a little weird though, when you play a conference opponent but it doesn't count as a conference game.

Stephen Wiseman has said that the two schools have discussed exactly that (https://twitter.com/stevewisemannc/status/559746018225688576). But, he says that other contracts (https://twitter.com/stevewisemannc/status/559746718494109696) have gotten in the way of finding a date. Though, there's probably a couple years where we aren't already playing where we would have a nonconference slot open to play State.

unc threw some cash in to get the deal done.

Which includes the Wake players doing homework for the unc players.

I don't think there is any truth to the rumor that it includes 4 papers written for each unc player per game played.

:D Monday humor is always appreciated! And don't give the Heelz any ideas!

fbsschedules.com is pretty good for these future non-con dates. (http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa/acc/duke-blue-devils.php)

Both Duke and State are fully booked through 2017 already. Duke has one spot left for 2018 and 2019, but probably is looking for an FCS team for those spots. State is already booked for 2018 and 2019. For 2020 both teams have an open spot, but that is the year we do play State in conference. So 2021 is the first time a non-con Duke/State game could happen.

You're correct, Wake is a non-FCS school: non Fake Class School!
