Good news for Mason. Now if only they JJ could get a crack at the 3 point contest......

Cool. But would Miles be better? He has the higher vertical if I recall.

Miles may have the highest vertical but Mason has always been the better dunker. They're both awesome though. Would also love to see Josh McRoberts in the dunk contest someday.

Yup. Miles is more athletic, has longer arms, and can jump out a gym, but Mason is the creative dunker in the family. Remember the 3-ball dunk (stop laughing)? It was impressive. Also, Mason is so solid at reverse dunks; not sure If I remember Miles making one of those.

When I was younger, the dunk contest was must see tv for me. It has gotten so bad over the years, I hardly ever tune in any more. At least now I have a reason to watch it.

There's too many attemps, gimmicks going on. I know it's hard to be creative when dunk contests have been going on for probably 30 years on a national stage. But where is the line between good showmanship, and the WWE begin or end?

Anyway, I hope Mason comes out with something awesome and can bring this thing home. Mason is tall, which almost always hurts you in a dunk contest. He has to have something up his sleeve to have entered..right?

Yes, Miles can reverse dunk. Both Mason and Miles were excellent at the reverse jam.

Here is Miles doing a reverse in a dunk contest in Cameron:

Uh, McRoberts is now 27 years old and has knee issues. I don't think he'd be very good in a dunk contest anymore. :)

Before he got hurt Mcbob took one to the cup against the clippers, would have been the dunk of the year but he missed of the back rim. He was also fouled, but it brought AAA to their feet. Not sure if that statement means he would be good in the dunk contest or not good. But either way when healthy which wont be this year he can still throw down.

McRoberts was in one of the best dunk contests I can remember at the McDs AA game his senior year in 2005. He and Gerald Green went into overtime and Josh lost, but they were both incredible. Green was better because that dude can absolutely fly, still can.

He won it in 2001. I don't know why that shocks you.

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but this year must have the most highly anticipated 3-point contest field ever - Curry, K. Thompson, Korver, Redick, Harden, Irving, Belinelli, Matthews. If you asked the average NBA fan who they'd want to see in a 3-point shootout, I'd guess they'd pick at least 5 or 6 of the 8 listed here. Yes, I realize there are three-point specialists in the league who might be better pure 3-point shooters than some of these guys, but would you really rather see Anthony Morrow in there over any of these guys? The NBA must be psyched to have this field.

It's a great field and I am really looking forward to it. I would rather see James Harden or Ryan Anderson than Kyrie, but the other five guys are probably the top five guys that I would have on my list if I was putting together a "dream" three point shoot out.

Dude, Harden is already in, and Kryie is A) a defending champion (from 2 years ago), and B) shooting 40% from 3 this year. He's plenty deserving.

Agree with the previous comment, this is certainly the most highly anticipated 3-point shooting contest in recent memory (maybe ever). I am 1000% more excited for this than the dunk contest.

JJ had a tough first round and didn't make the finals.
Kyrie did make the finals, where Stephen lit it up and won.

Dunk contest is up next!

Mason in third after the first round. Kyrie was assisting. Unfortunately, he missed his first two attempts.
Oladipo and LaVine had some nasty dunks.

Doesn't matter. He'd still be in 3rd after Lavine and Oladipo's dunks.

Oladipo and Levine were off the hook. Those dunks were crazy.Buuuut, I think Mason could do a 360 reverse like Oladipo. Mason is trying to be too creative. It made me think that it might be cool if the dunk contest was like a billiards trick shot contest (or H.O.R.S.E) where players have to match each other's tricks.

The dunk contest has been dumb for years now. There's no standard, the scores are often all-or-nothing, and there's such a strong component of perception and wishes.....ever since Michael Jordan robbed Dominique.

Agh, Mason should have jumped over the waitress instead.

Mason missed his first two again then changed his dunk. Brought in Miles, and leapt over him for the dunk. Mediocre scores. Unless Oladipo and LaVine miss their dunks, Mason will probably stay in third.

I retract my Mason cheering. Oladipo just took Mason & Kyrie's dunk to the next level. :(

Ha Ha! As long as she was holding the tray of beers.

Also, LaVine just threw down another nasty.

OMG Levine!

Lavine's 2nd dunk was beautiful. If someone hits a dunk that nice, they should just end the contest and send everyone home.

LaVine earned that for sure. Every dunk was either through the legs or behind the back with his head at the rim. Wow.

JJ shot it well but had his foot on the line and did not get pts.

Kid has spent a lot of time developing that. Those were special dunks. At least one has to make the all time top 10.

Lavine was a worthy champ, but the dunk contest definitely lost something when they started allowing misses...it just kills the tension when everyone knows the next dunk coming.

Mason was just OK, once you fail to execute a dunk the first few times, you lose the crowd. I also wish everyone would get away from the two man dunks and props. Lavine's best were when it was just him making moves.

Oladipo gets huge props for singing "New York, New York" during his intro.

The 3 point contest was solid, JJ might have made more noise if he hadn't foot faulted so many times. Curry delivered an epic finale...13 in a row...the roof would have blown off had he made that last one.

The dunk contest is about showing something they have not seen before. So all those lobs and passes come out even though it ups the chances of missed dunks. Why do they just have a big man dunk contest for few years and keep raising the rims?

Maybe they can do something like lower the max # of points for each attempt. First attempt is worth a max of 50, second attempt a max of 48, etc. (Note: I didn't watch the dunk competition -- apparently missed out on a great one -- so maybe they already do something like that.) Theoretically this will incentivize the competitors to balance risk vs reward, so you don't see someone spend three minutes trying the same dunk and finally hitting it on his 6th try.
