I know, it's Elon, which usually hasn't been a big challenge (losing last year 86-48), but this year's Phoenix took Northwestern to overtime in Evanston before falling. Moreover, in Pomeroy, Elon (at 261)is one spot ahead on NJIT, so an upset is possible.

Elon apparently plays an uptempo game, being ranked 51st in Pomeroy for tempo.

Coach K seems to schedule a lighter game when returning from a period off (I assume it is to allow the student to take their exams). Not a bad idea and they will soon face UCONN which is more of a threat. The Elon game will allow the team to work on communication and will get Semi and Grayson some additional experience. We may need Semi along the way so it is good that he can get some game experience in these easier games.

I realize Missouri is not a ranked team, but Elon was impressive even in defeat. Missouri won 78-73, but it was a one-point game with 26 seconds left. After Missouri hit a couple of free throws to go up three, Elon had a 3-pointer to tie with about 12 seconds left.

Not saying Elon is a threat to win in Cameron Monday night. but they might be better competition than the rankings would suggest.

I am not wholly disagreeing with the scenario you raised (Duke could be quite rusty), but Missouri is awful. Not bad. AWFUL. The Tigers have already gone down four times, and watching them against Arizona and Purdue, one was not left with the impression that Mizzou is going anywhere other than the CBI.

I hope Elon gives the good guys a bit of exercise on Monday, but it will not be a result of the Phoenix going nose to nose with the boys from Columbia.

He played basketball, baseball and was the number one golfer on the Elon golf team. He set a record at little Mayodan High School with 56 points in one game his senior year. Quite an accomplishment for a 5'9" guard. Leroy passed away at the young age of 64. The week end before he passed away he shot 65 at Pilot Knob Golf Club. He taught me a lot about golf and I sure do miss him. Mr. Dalton McMichael donated millions of dollars to Elon College over the years. McMichael High School is named after this great man. Like I say, Elon has a special spot in my heart, but I still want Duke to beat them comfortably. GoDuke!

I will be very surprised if they are good competition....and if it is, something will have gone very wrong for duke.

DBR somehow always finds a way to make every opponent seem like a world beater....which is great in the name of not looking over anyone....but in reality, this game ought not be competitive....if you take out the non D1 games, Elon is 3-4 with the wins coming by a combined 7 points over florida atlantic, morgantown, and miami-ohio. Yes they played missouri and northwestern close.....but they are ranked 132 and 149 respectively....I.E. they are not good either.

Elon is 254 kenpom and Duke is projected to win 90-60 with a 99% chance of winning....basically you can't get a more sure win.

If this game proves to be even marginally close, I'll be the first one to give you props.

Thanks JB. Looking forward to seeing Duke get back on the court after a grueling finals period (I wonder if they're camped out in the stacks like I usually did for finals).

This game won't be pretty. I expect Duke to win by 20+ and have an easy game. But, like most teams after a long break, there will be an adjustment period in the first 10 minutes or so. I'm expecting a few silly turnovers and easy buckets by the opponent, followed by Coach K calling a timeout and screaming at his players.

Okafor is an outstanding basketball player.

I don't think Duke will run the table but it is really looking like they will only have 2-3 losses this year. The defensive pressure is outstanding, they rebound real well, guard play in terms of driving to the hoop or moving the ball around the court is second to none, and they are deep. I think the only thing they need to improve on is more consistent 3 point shooting and free throw shooting.

Strikes me that Sheed's behavior was fine--their player could have injured our guy, and Sheed showed restraint.

Elon played punk on multiple occasions, and the refs lost control. I guess Elon can call it a moral victory, but I'll ignore all of their effort and talent and sum them up as cheap and dirty.And I blame it on their coach.
