Give the ACC credit -- they put all 11 bowl eligible teams in bowls ... 12 if you count Notre Dame.

Rose: Florida State vs. Oregon
Orange: Georgia Tech vs. Mississippi State
Russell: Clemson vs. Oklahoma
Belk: Louisville vs. Georgia
Sun: Duke vs. Arizona State
Pinstripe: Boston College vs. Penn State
Music City: Notre Dame vs. LSU
Military: Virginia Tech vs. Cincinnati
Duck Commander: Miami vs. South Carolina
Quicken Lane: UNC vs. Rutgers
Bitcom: N.C. State vs. Central Florida
Armed Forces: Pitt vs. Houston

Let's see -- that's four games vs. the SEC; two games vs. the Pac 12; two games vs. the Big Ten; one vs. the Big 12 ... three games vs. non-power 5 teams

Best quote of the ACC broadcast of the selection show came from Clinton Portis after the Miami-South Carolina matchup was announced in the Shreveport bowl -- "This is not a bowl Miami people should be very excited about," the ex-Miami star said.

For the ACC bowls, I looked up the teams' rankings at www.sports-reference.com to see what the computer would peg the point spreads at.

I combined the teams' rankings to see how marquee of a game each was (computer #1 v. computer #2 would have a marquee score of 3).

UNC has the least compelling game.

Rose: (10) Florida State vs. (1) Oregon .... Oregon by 7 .... marquee = 11
Orange: (12) Georgia Tech vs. (7) Mississippi State ... MissSt by 1.5 ... marquee = 19
Russell: (28) Clemson vs. (19) Oklahoma ... Okla by 2.5 ... marquee = 47
Belk: (21) Louisville vs. (6) Georgia ... Georgia by 5 .... marquee = 27
Sun: (41) Duke vs. (17) Arizona State ... Ariz St by 6 points ... marquee = 58
Pinstripe: (39) Boston College vs. (66) Penn State ... BC by 6 points ... marquee = 105
Music City: (33) Notre Dame vs. (22) LSU ... LSU by 4 points ... marquee = 55
Military: (42) Virginia Tech vs. (51) Cincinnati ... VT by 3 points ... marquee = 93
Duck Commander: (30) Miami vs. (43) South Carolina ... Miami by 4 ... marquee = 73
Quicken Lane: (63) UNC vs. (64) Rutgers ... pick'em ... marquee = 127
Bitcom: (48) N.C. State vs. (56) Central Florida ... State by 2 points ... marquee = 104
Armed Forces: (49) Pitt vs. (69) Houston .... Pitt by 3.5 .... marquee = 118

Best games (lowest marquee number; marquee number = combined rankings of the two teams):

FSU/Oregon - 11
GT/MissSt - 19
L'ville/UGA - 27

Clemson/Okla - 47
ND/LSU - 55
Duke/ArizSt - 58

Miami/SoCar - 73
VT/Cincy - 93
NCSU/UCF - 104

BC/PSU - 105
Pitt/Hou - 118
UNC/Rutg - 127

ACC teams with easiest time per the computer:

BC 6 point favorites
Miami 4 point favorites
Pitt 3.5 point favorites
VT 3 point favorites
NCSU 2 point favorites
----------------------------------------
UNC pick'em
----------------------------------------
GT 1.5 point underdogs
Clemson 2.5 point underdogs
ND 4 point underdogs
L'ville 5 point underdogs
Duke 6 point underdogs
FSU 7 point underdogs

This is probably my one and only chance to ever amend anything Olympic says! The bowl that State was invited to is actually the Bitcoin St. Petersburg bowl (nee Beef'O'Grady bowl, nee magicJack bowl). Bitcoin, as in the computer-based crypto-currency. The bowl site even helpfully has an explanatory video (http://stpetersburgbowl.com/bitcoin-video/).

I guess it's true that everyone and everywhere has a bowl now!

FIFA? The Olympics?

The IOC usually doesn't pick the athletes that make the final heat based on which ones have the biggest brands. College football has its own unique brand of corruption.

The Vegas lines published in the N&O this morning have 2 ACC teams favored (vs Big 10 teams) and one toss up. The most fascinating stat: ALL Big 10 teams are underdogs (10 if them)- guess Vegas knows best. I would love to see that outcome even it means a win by the Heels- well maybe not- hoping for 1-9 record rd for the overrated conference.

Most of the way through the season I took a look at the Sagarin conference ratings, and the B1G was at the bottom, so I'm not sure how overrated they are
except perhaps within their own fanbase. Most observers know how unimpressive that conference has been.

That is completely shady. I don't see how you can swap Mississippi State and Michigan State based on the results of that weekend (when neither team played and when the Spartans' opponents played much better than the Bulldogs' opponents). And of course it would go largely unnoticed since the focus is all on the top 4. I would love to hear a legitimate explanation for this.

As would I, but don't hold your breath. The best they will come up with -- if they offer any explanation at all -- is that the interim rankings really were not intended to be taken seriously because it was only at the very end that they considered "the full body of work."

While it looks shady, I was surprised that Michigan State had jumped Mississippi State the previous week. Per both Sagarin and S-R, Mississippi State is a better team than Michigan State. And folks talk how the SEC West is God's own football conference whereas the Big 10 is weak. So, maybe it is in fact shady -- but perhaps the shadiness was done to right the previous week's wrong of rating Michigan State over Mississippi State.

My favorite quote from the bowl coverage so far...

So the good news: No Shreveport. The bad news: UNC is headed to Detroit and something called the Quick Lane Bowl. There, at Ford Field, a large NFL stadium, UNC will play Rutgers on the afternoon after Christmas. What’s the over/under on attendance for this one going to be? Ten thousand? Maybe? If 10,000 people do show up, the next question has to be: What are you all doing here? At least they pay me to go.

If I'm getting in a gun fight, it might as well be over the supremacy of NC bbq.

Didn't get a chance to try CB&B's bbq last game but have followed him on FB -- DAMN it looks good!

Man, you're talking some serious trouble. Gun and BBQ fights? In Texas? His chopped and pulled pig at the WFU tailgate were awesome. Sorry you missed those. I'll bet you can find a few morsels of something beefy and tasty in El Paso.
